Graphics card failure?

Hoping the collected scoobynet intellect can help?

Started last night while playing HL2, screen went all pixellated and it looked like the colours inverted, then returned to normal colours and stuff but then it was frozen. PC self rebooted but then the launch screens (energy star, gfx load up etc) were all pixellated and sort of matrix stylee. Windows launch screen seemed fine, but then PC rebooted itself without getting fully into windows.

Ok, so I kick it a bit and then start watching football.

After football (some hour and half later - can you see where this is leading yet?) I try again, ah ha everything ok now, pc boots up fine get into windows, get online, manage to send an e-mail, then after about 15 minutes another reboot - andfwe're back into the situation described above.

I thought this was an over heating issue? But this seems strange as all fans are still working, and i couln't feel any heat being displaced from the case last night at all. In addition this evening when its had almost 24hrs rest we're back in the same situation as described above, no proper start from cold only the pixellated load up screens (energy star etc) then a reboot as windows starts to boot up?

Any help gratefully received

could still be heat (just localised). . . .

open it up and clean out all the heatsyncs & fans (use old toothbrush & compressed air).
