Servicing Legalities & It would be funny if not true!
First the laughable bit:
Wanted prices for 10k service & body service on my 05 STi type UK and was very careful to tell the main dealers service departments the full & complete vehicle title - Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type UK PPP - in each case. Subaru Main Dealer #1 : "Is it a Turbo?" #2 "Will ring back" - Never Did #3 "Body service, never heard of it". Then tried a local well respected Independant Subaru Specialist "Certainly sir, it's £xx", & proceeds to describe what's required etc. Which leads me to the question about the legality of the Subaru Service & Warranties Book, which says repeatedly that the warranty is invalid if not serviced 'By an officially appointed SUBARU dealer'. I thought however that legislation had made it possible to retain a warranty if the service was carried out to manufacturers standard & having experienced the Dealer's 20 minute oil change in the past I'm certain the Independant would take 100% more care etc. Does this only apply to the 1st year Manufacturer warranty though? As an aside there's also a question of £ as Dealer #3 is £20 more than Dealer #1 and the independant a further £92 cheaper for the 10k, the body service was either £117.50 or £40 (same job)!!! Why should I be forced to trust my car to someone who doesn't even know it's got a turbo when an experienced specialist mechanic is 1/2 the price!? Help, Ste. |
When my dealer was twinned with a Diahatsu dealer I was asked by the lovely lady if my WRX was a Subaru. :D

EU Block exemption laws.
Garage must: Be vat registered Use oem parts (I assume they have to fit the parts properly of course!) If they do then subaru can't deny any warranty claim. Now, I'm not sure when the law became effective and what year cars they affect but I'm sure more knowledgable peeps here will confirm. Regardless, quote the law when dealing with the dealers as they will no doubt try the scaremongering tactics. |
Do some searching on 'Block Exemption', this will get you going... Q4.. http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/fact...page29050.html
