Rather than trying to get to the bottom of the social issue and doing something about it lets just slap some extra tax on alcopops so the kiddies dont spend their "pocket money" on them. No instead it will be a 2 Litre bootle of white lightning a half bottle of cheap Vodka and some Panda Pops.

Why not just make it illega. Prohibition seems to have solved our heroin, crack and cocaine problems so why not apply a similar approach to one of the most evil nervous system depressants?

Why don't they just tax drink for the under 18's at a higher rate?

Or introduce tolls at street corners, or childrens playgrounds?

Hmmm. This is from the same lot that brought in 24 hour drinking so that the UK would develop a Euro 'cafe' culture ...... Oh, and the same lot that is bringing in super casinos even though all studies show it encourages gambling addiction .... oh, and the same lot having a GM consultation of many interested organisations, all of whom are GM producers or similar ...

Sorry, the sooner they're out the better ... but there isn't a viable alternative at the moment so we're all scr3wed ...

I have this theory that they aren't bothered about the underlying problem, they are just interested about how they can raise more tax from it.

Same with the environment - another great area they can take the "moral high ground" and tax people - even though it won't do anything towards the environment.

I agree, make us get used to the idea of a higher than normal tax increase on alchohol at the next budget, so we are not suprised when it happens.

I bet there are a lot of 30 or 40 somethings on here who had a few drinks before they were 18.

I'm not saying i agree with it, but it seems like they're amking out it's a new problem.

All I can do is laugh now whenever I hear some sh!t government money making scheme. If I didn't laugh I would cry. Bunch of stuck up w@nkers the lot of them.
It's not like you can do anything about it either. All the other so called parties are exactly the same.
I'm struggling to think of things they might tax next. But that lot of jokers will come up with something, maybe they'll want to strap some CO2 tax metering device to your arse for environmental sake.

Exactly, when I was in my early teens we were in the park drinking cheap side and kestrel super etc... start putting prices up on premium drinks and they'll just drink more cheaper stuff.

It'll change nothing. I agreed with 24hour drinking policys but lets be honest, its only so people will drink more and fund the government. ;)
