After reading about all this on the Audi forums, they were quite suprised about this, purely because is really does make the performance car range REALLY compact -

S3 - 2.0 FSI Turbo 265bhp
RS3 - 350 bhp
S4 - 4.2 V8 40v Naturally Aspirated - 344bhp
RS4 - 4.2 V8 32v Naturally Aspirated - 420 bhp
S6 - 5.2 FSI - 420 bhp
RS6 - 4.2 V8 40v biturbo - 450bhp (current model)
RS6 - 4.2 V10 Turbo - 550 bhp (new model - think I'm right with the specs!)

(all specs sourced from either Audi.com, RS246.com and the blog above)

Getting very crazy and crowded :D

IMO, Audi (along with all the other German manufacturers) are so obsessed with bhp now, that they've made it very difficult for the consumer to choose the right car.
Clarkson has already slagged the new S6, stating that it is not powerful enough to warrant the "S" badge. However, if Audi had have made it more powerful, they would have started treading on the S8's toes.......

BMW have done the same with the M3/33x models. And the 5 series.......

All IMHO, of course ;)

Well, mid 2006 ??? That's been and gone. The S3 isn't even on sale yet.

That RS3 mock-up has been out for a few years now. First shown by `Auto Express`.
A spokesman from Audi has been quoted as saying there is no room for a RS3, as it would be too close to the RS4, and p1ss all over the S4. Potentially taking sales away from the S4/RS4.

Of course that could have been bull, and even if it was you'd expect Audi to let the S3 sell for a year or two before intruducing the RS3.

If at all, I'd expect it to be on sale in 2008 at the earliest. Probably the latter half.

Would also expect to be be a minimum price of £35k, plus extra's, call it over £40k.

Would be very tempted though. Might even make me think twice about the potential new Focus RS !! http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j1...er/driving.gif

With BMW you are comparing the new 335 with the old M3. Wait for the new M3 to appear.

If a RS3 does get made, (good chance due to 350hp audi R4 and TT-R) the new S4 will be out by then with about 380-400hp making room for such a car.

The RS6 will be a 5.2 however, leaning towards bi-turbo propulsion I believe.

True, but doesn't change the fact of the matter though..... too much choice, compacted together :(

You also need to take into account the new A5 coupe
