cheers mate, just tying to set up my boost controller, just wanted to make sure it was not over boosting !

What do most people run boost at ?

I have got a front mount Intercooler, Cat back exhaust, filter, and a few other little bits !

Have you had the car re-mapped since the FMIC ?

I think I would take advise before winding the boost up if that's the direction your thinking of..... don't quote me but I think most people after a re-map and running high boost prefer to go the other way and turn it down for around town driving then turn it back up when they want to use the car more.

Ibiza_Cupra 25 October 2006 05:10 PM

No i have not had a remap as yet, i am going to get a new down pipe and sports cat then i will get a re-map done! And yes it is crying out for one !

ok well thats the idea, i have 3 settings on my boost controller, on which i will set and low boost and another one which i will set when i want to move that little be quicker !

I would suggest running low boost until you get all your mods on and re-map... when you get the car mapped you can then get the boost controller set up accuratly.

Good Luck :thumb:

If you increase boost then you need to increase the fueling accordingly. Extra boost without extra fuel = lean mixture. Running a lean mix on these cars is bad news.

The MY2000 will be fine running up to 1.25 bar boost. The fuelling and ignition will be okay on the standard ecu up to that point. Raising boost above and beyond this point will cause the fuel to cut out as a preventative measure.

I ran the standard ECU (AE802 iirc) at 1.4 Bar without any problems for 20,000 miles on a MY00 car. But, it was remapped to run safely at this boost level.

Therefore ceased to be standard.:)

Point taken, but with all that kit he could get loads more out of the car 'safely' with a remap dont you think?

Yes definitely. However I think the turbo would benefit from an upgrade if it's the standard TD04. TD05 great bang for buck.:thumb:

A serious power upgrade is possible me thinks with a TD05 & FMIC :thumb:

I was told 1.15 bar, when mine was set up for 1.25 i started to get DET, but it depends on the car.
Personnaly i wouldn't go any higher than 1.15bar (on standard ECU map) unless you are getting it check by someone with DET CANS.

I will be going down at the weekend to find out how much it is going to cost me to get a re-map ! at the moment i am running just over 1 bar to be on the safe side !

After the re-map i will be getting it on the rolling road to find out what she is doing! cause i have no idea, apart from that it is not as much as she could be doing !

Personally, I wouldn't be running anymore than std boost (.9 bar) with those mods and If I didn't have a knocklink, I'd get one NOW! You just won't know what's going on with the engine untill it's too late otherwise.

It's a device that monitors the engine for signs of detonation i.e. IIRC fuel igniting before the ignition stage of the combustion process in an uncontrolled manner (very bad news for a Scooby engine). One of the major causes of det is lean running/too much boost for the fueling parameters etc... Severe Det can kill an engine in seconds. The knocklink warns you of det via a LED display.

Speak to Bob Rawle (BRdevelopments) about them; he sells them and, incidentally, is also one of the best-if not the best- mapper for Scoobies in the UK

If you're going to fiddle with the boost on a scooby, escpecially if increasing it above std with other mods, you should, at the very least, have the car's AFR checked with a wideband AFR guage and get it listened to by someone with DET cans! A remap is really the only way to do it properly though and I'd suggest you get one done ASAP!
