after weeks of grief and numerous hassle with batteries being drained and leaving me stranded or waking the neighbours, i had my new alarm/immobiliser fitted today.
goodbye pain in the ar5e foxguard...hello selca gt auto.
it plips first time , every time, doesnt make stupid noises, minimum fuss, and cost £282 inc vat, inc fitting by reputable dealer.
the guy could have sold me a clifford, but told me they cause more hassle than theyre worth.
anyone any experience of these alarms? are they the ones used on vw's? am i breathing a sigh of relief too soon?:D

I think its more to do with the person who fits it in most cases. If you've got confidence in the fitter you're more than half way there IMO. Then again if the same outfit fitted the 1st alarm then it doesn't apply here!!:)

I have no experience of that alarm BTW, sorry!

I have a GT Auto on the VR6 that i'm still waiting to shift, and after several years of trouble free use i would say they are **** hot. I never had any problems, and tings worked first time every time, it even does my windows and sunroof into the bargin !!

As to the price i was quoted £380 for a CAT 1 install and it was no GT alarm either, seem's like a bargin !!

Christ, one place NOT to scrimp and save is on your alarm!!!

Clifford is worth the hassle. It's a sod to install correctly, which is probably why your installer doesn't like 'em.

At the end of the day though, a badly installed expensive alarm is much less effective than a well installed cheap alarm. Get confidence in the work of the installer...

chiark, to be fair, its not only the installer who found cliffords to be a pain. ive had one in my old sti 5, my girlfriend has one in her pulsar, and her brother has one in his escort.
all of us, at some point , have had grief with these things. the person who installed this current alarm didnt do the foxguard installation.he was just giving his personal view on it.
as far as scrimping goes, well to be honest , ive NEVER had much faith in alarms etc. i have far more faith in the disklok i use, and the trackstar thats fitted. i just needed a cat one alarm for insurance purposes.
