Who uses Harnesses for everyday use

I know there are a couple of sets knocking around in members cars, I just wondered what they are like to live with day to day?

When fitting do you tend to remove the standard seat belts or leave them in position? Not sure what the done thing is with this.

MOT time do they pass as seatbelts, if just there on their own :wonder:

I was in Maddogs car and he had a bar going accross the two front seats to attach them too, leaving the rear seats still usable, this is what i would ideally like to do if anyone knows where to get such items

Any other bits of info would be great please guys. :notworthy

Fitting them into the GT3 RS was a great mod, makes you feel much more planted.

So you kept your OE belts then? what does the MOT test for if both are in place?

Sorry for stupid questions:)

cookstar 18 October 2006 08:53 PM

Oh and does anyone have an idea on cost?

I had Sabelt Subaru Rally team harnesses in my WR1 which I used all the time. Don't go and buy any of those crappy willans £100 things as they are crap and look crap!! Best belts are Sabelt by far. If you can stretch to the cost buy the ones that Solberg uses in his rally car. £350 a pop but well well worth it ...

Harnesses should be standard on all cars ... make you feel totally at one with the car and hold you in an awesome position.

Well worth doing as long as you do it properly. Don't buy them on a budget and you won't go wrong.

I've just fitted my sparco one's in my classic and there are already anchor points available.

I've still got the OE ones in situ, but not sure how this will be for MOT - may have to move the seatbelt warning light  .

As for price its the same as any mod just depends on budget, 3 or 4+ point and make. Try this place Red Dragon Styling - Car Styling And Performance S was the cheapest I could find for sparco ones.

Like itworldwide said its a great mod and you can go into and around corners (around a track of course) with more confidence, response and speed.

As many who know me remember I was pulled up on average twice every week ... any time a traffic scum pulled me they tried to explore the legality of the harnesses. As long as they have all the correct road/race/rally ratings (which Sabelts do) then they are fine for road use. I left the original seat belts in place also for when I had to take any honeyz out ... as many women find the thought of having to get harnessed up disturbing. :Suspiciou :Suspiciou :Suspiciou :Suspiciou

All I would say is the same as I say in all situations with these cars. If you are buying stuff on a silly small budget then don't bother!! Buy the best and then you will never be disappointed.

I wont set a budget for something I know obviously very little about and then try to find a suitable set.

I will explore the costs of a proper set, decide if I can afford it, if so then all good, if not probably sulk for a while then move on :D

Did you disable the alarm for seabelts then?

T5OLF 18 October 2006 10:46 PM

I have both, air craft type 4 point sabelts and oe ones. Went through test last week no problem with both fitted. I use mine most of the time unless I'm nipping up town, when pulled tight they hold you solid and really stop you moving under hard braking and cornering.

Well worth the money imo.

yeh ... There is a plug underneath the seat which you just need to disconnect. When I sold the beast I just reconnected it and the alarm worked fine.

They will need to be homologated to be safe for MOT pass.
So absolutely leave the OE belts in place.

rear mounting points used the standard ones and are easy to swap between harness and OE belts. Harnesses are a pain for everyday use though but you really feel the extra control when you have them on.
