Different email addy in the advert. Its a scam with an account hijacked. Report to Ebay.

I'm looking hard to find the CAT C/D write off part :)

Nope nothing.

alwong 17 October 2006 04:11 PM

His other items are cheap books. It seems like he's built up his positive feedback by selling cheap stuff and now he's trying to sell something substantial off the back of his excellent feedback!

Never buy something thats too good to be true!

scoobynutta555 17 October 2006 04:19 PM

ITS A HIJACKED ACCOUNT

Tidgy 17 October 2006 04:26 PM

yeah hijacked account, never respond or deal with an email addy like that, the item will be removed if the email isn't valid so tis a dodgy advert if its still up

Mitchy260 17 October 2006 04:57 PM

He's hijacked the guys account and set up an email address very similar to the username of the genuine E-bayer.

The real guy bruce 159 is a genuine ebayer, his feedback tells you so. It is not bruce 159 selling the car though.

Just email him asking where he lives in nottingham as you also live there and if you can come and see the car and you will pay him cash after a test drive.

That will scare him off.

I dont actually get how this scam works? Do they actually expect a payment through the internet without the buyer actually viewing and test driving the car! Ebay is just for advertising 99% of people will buy the car with cash when they go to view the car!

You'd have to be a right idiot to buy a car without even viewing it!

Sadly, there's one born every day otherwise the scammers would stop doing it.

i live in nottingham :)

Mitchy260 17 October 2006 05:17 PM

I have emailed him asking if i can come and view it and i am awaiting an answer, although thinking about it i wish i hadn't now!

I now fear i know how the scammers do it and im worried about opening his email reply when i get 1! My email address and ebay username are identical as are many other peoples. I have emailed him asking a question so now he can put 2 and 2 together and will search my username and find out my ebay identity!

So what you might say, what can he do?

He may send something to my computer through his reply email allowing him to trace my password the next time i type it in.

Im not a computer boffin so not sure if this is possible but you have to ask yourself why so many accounts get hijacked? How do they know the passwords to enter the hijacked account?

Im sure ive read somewhere that this kind of thing is possible with viruses sent in emails? Or am i just worrying over nothing?

lee-swindon 17 October 2006 05:22 PM

theres so many of the these so called "cheap" cars on ebay at the moment, nearly brand new cars for less than a third of there value!!! such a con!!

Just make sure you are fully up to date on your windows updates (if you use xp) and dont follow any links or open any attachments.

Like someone said, theres always some idiots that fall for it...

jono300 17 October 2006 08:31 PM

The seller ended this item early due to an error in the listing.

what part was the error ???!!!!!

personally I am like one of the above posters who fail to see that anyone who in there right mind would actually have sent a payment for this car without seeing it first.

andythejock01wrx 17 October 2006 09:49 PM

You've got it all wrong - that's not the selling price, it's the annual maintenance costs !!! :lol1:

I sold my 540 on ebay...£20k in my bank account before the bloke even saw the car....in fact, i never met him. Just left the keys with the wife to give him when he showed up having paid in full 1 week earlier.

Rubbish!!! Quarter (running costs) :)

alwong 18 October 2006 08:47 AM

I've got an email back from the real Bruce and he has indeed said it's not his item and he doesn't have a car for sale!

I just emailed the seller direct instead of using the yahoo account!

I can vouch for that.

I haven't seen any other red MR's around Notts...I see a grey FQ400, but that's the only other MR I've seen
