Speed cameras are in the news again...

What, I guess, most people have suspected for a very long time. Makes for very depressing reading :(

We've had as many road deaths this year as in the late 90's when Northampton was chosen as one of the first counties to trial all the new speed camera technologies...

What is most interesting about all of this is that the companies making a fortune selling these devices to the police are turning into retirement homes for police officers. The people who met the MoS were all ex-police officers for example. I can't imagine a more corrupt thing to do than to set up a camera partnership when you are in the police and then take retirement to make a fortune selling cameras to the very camera partnership you set up. Yet another example of corruption within the police force and this one must warrant a criminal investigation into the manner in which public money is being used to line the pockets of "retired" police officers willing to toe the camera line while they are in the force.

They finally got me. :( I didn't even see them.
Bang goes the clean license. |
I don't think they are reliable enough to be used to convict a motorist.

Speed cameras and the Plonkers who slavishly advocate them Alcazar.

Speed cameras are money making machines, the article in the MoS was very interesting and described where the money ends up. The latest figures clearly show that speed is not the main contributor in accidents, but the Govt sees this as an easy way to look as if they are doing something whilst not increasing the numbers of Police to the level they should. More people in jail for motoring offences than robbery......!
|
It cannot be denied however that the higher the speed-the worse the accident is likely to be!

Another 3 people killed this weekend in Northants. Looking forward to how the police explain the 30-40% rise in deaths on the roads this year after they've installed yet more cameras in the last few months.

cameras do squat, wonder how many minor accidents are caused byt people spending more time looking at speedo than at car in front.
having said that, i do agree with cams/speed humps outside schools and alike. although even if there not there i tend to slow down driving past, rather spend a couple of extra mins driving than living with hurting a child who ran out in front without checking |

Please get away from this 'speed cameras' work belief - we know they don't. Any acceptance just means the authorities have won you over and they'll go ahead to put up more of these scameras ... Dave |
