Plane crashed into New York building

BBC NEWS | World | Americas | Aircraft hits New York building

breaking news

A small plane, on an un named building, not sure Id say terrorist attack just yet, I think even if the terrorists would get their hands on a small plane I think they'd aim for the Empire State building or something, if that was the case then I think it'd be reported on a more major scale already.

davegtt 11 October 2006 08:18 PM

I hear its a helicopter now. Apartment buildings too.

AndyK 11 October 2006 08:20 PM

whatching it on tv. It was a helicopter that hit the building. I know people who live up there

GC8 11 October 2006 08:25 PM

Now a fixed wing plane according to an eye witness. The building was called the 'Bel-Air'; a 50 floor residential building.

AndyK 11 October 2006 08:30 PM

they have just changed it on fox 5 back to a plane as well. Going to go on the roof and see if i can see it but the visibility today is crap. Might have been the cause because the location is by the river on 77st on the east side.

*Sonic* 11 October 2006 08:32 PM

The address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street _ a 50-story condominium tower built in 1986 and located nearby Sotheby's Auction House. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million.

AndyK 11 October 2006 08:38 PM

The last report said that they think the plane was doing stunts

Iwan 11 October 2006 08:41 PM

I bet it brings back some unpleasant memories for the FDNY. :(

I hope it was an accident and not something more sinister. :(

AudiLover 11 October 2006 08:46 PM

I dont feel sorry for them. Infact I couldnt care less. Babies are dying every second. That I care about.

WTF was the point in that post? Fishing?

Markus 11 October 2006 08:50 PM

More proof that the terrorists have won (instilling terror in their "enemy") as the first thing the morons thought was "ooh, it's terrorsits!" rather than thinking "oh, it's an accident!".

no because people are getting all emotional about yank problems when they dont give a toss about anything or anyone else.

Good job on biting though

davegtt 11 October 2006 08:54 PM

It wasnt a bite, if it was I would have took a chunk ;)

Whos getting emotional over their probs? apart from one person bringing up memories for NYFD.

My girl friend whatched the towers go down and our friend had to run away dodging people falling. It is still in their minds and i think you should agree that it would be hard to forget.

I agree that they do some times jump to react but they are new at terroism so give them a break. Also, it is a thought in their minds but it is just a thought and not a conclusion for every event. In the same way that if you find a car crash on a friday night on a country road you think drunk.

Admit it when you heard of a plane hitting a building in new york you thought about previous events.

Markus 11 October 2006 09:26 PM

No I thought about stupid yanks' first thoughts being it's another terrorist attack when it could simply be an accident.

No me, must be because of the type of people you socialise with ;)

I am sat next to one of those "morons" (my girlfriend). I think you are off her christmas card list.

The media of this country (america) do all the hype and that is all you (england) get. The reality is that most americans watch BBC if they want real news rather than the sensationalist crap with as much content as the "Sun" that they put on their own channels.

The posts on here critising america are ones from people who think friends is factual. I am sorry to say that there is no central perk.

If we watch the Comedy News Network (CNN) then yes, we'll get the hyped crap that fools the majority of stupid americans (there is a minority of intelligent yanks though, not all of them are akin to rednecks :D), if we watch the BBC, we see the real picture.

We are fully aware of the hype generated by the US media, but we're also aware how totally paranoid and insular the USA is, and not a day goes by when 9/11 isn't mentioned. Grow up, move on!

I've got American family and they are part of the intelligent minority, they fully admit that most of their fellow countrymen aren't the brightest bunch, just look at who the US has as a President. I know Blair is bad, but you have to admit he's not a patch on the loveably grade C student that is Bush.

TopBanana 11 October 2006 10:00 PM

This is scarcely newsworthy, light aircraft crash all the time.

AndyK 11 October 2006 10:20 PM

Latest news is that it is a yankees pitcher that owned the plane and there may have been several players on board.

I too get irritated by the constant remider of september 11th, probably MUCH more than any one in england, but having had the news on for several hours, while i work, terroism has only been mentioned to confirm it is not involved. Please do not for an instant beleive the english media would not metion terrorism if there was an explosion on the underground. That is how it is being covered here. Right now they are focusing on the impact on traffic around the island.

If we are getting into the politics of the US take a look at how the country voted. Both coast would rather have a anything other than Bush in power but
the middle states are where the dukes of hazard stereotypes come from and they voted for him. Also, as in the UK, the voting system is not proportional and many more people voted against Bush than for him so that would make the majority of US against him at the time of voting. Since then he has had a 13% approval rating so that makes 87% intelligent?????

I think bush should be in prison for what he has done but at least he admitted no WMD whereas Blair was still adament. Blair has ruined the uk, making people miserable due to over paying tax and not getting value for money, and is one of the reasons why I left.
