Here are some pictures of my cousins escort cosworth. It is a K reg big turbo but he bought it knowing it needed a bit of work to get it mint.It has only done 68k miles and has every bill, mot etc.The usual areas need attention petrol cap, sills, tailgate, battery box, rear arches and tidying up stone chips.I.t started out looking like this

It was then stripped and a new Ford tailgate bought and the old petrol cap cut out and a new one welded in.The sills and battery box were repairaired and an uprated fuel pump fitted for future engine mods.

The car was then taken to the spray bay for priming/painting.The whole drivers side was painted to get a good match with all glass seals etc removed

An escort cossie with the Subaru burbble would be the perfect car.Was down a look this morning and all of the brake discs, pads, flexibles and pipes are being changed.

Why bin the tailgate ? doesn't look that bad , put it on e-bay could get a few pound's :D , love the cossie's pity it's not white :D , good luck with build :D

bmac800 03 October 2006 09:35 AM

Whole bottom edge is rotten. You can get a new Ford one for less than £300.

alcazar 04 October 2006 10:23 AM

Love it. I'd have one now, but wife refused to let me spend the same on a 5 year old car as we spent on the Scoob new:(

Was in the same position myself in 1999.A 3/4 year old escort was going for £20k and a brand new impreza classic was the same price so went for the Subaru.Subaru was great but its not an RS and I lost a fortune on it in the two years I had it.

The car is now back together and the paint is getting flatted and polished next week so I will get some more pics then.He is trying to sus out now what mods to do.He was going to do the 330 conversion with the green injectors,Bayjoo chip etc but then there is the hassle of getting it through Mots(you can get all the bits from Woodford Garage for £500).The new exhaust has no cats so he may have to get a sports cat downpipe or something similar.I had a 4x4 Sapphire with the same conversion done by Castle Engineering 8 years ago and the emmissions were not even close to passing the MOT then and they are a lot tighter now.Any advice on this would be gratefully appreciated.

Yeah, tell him to keep it standard. Or at the very least, just get the stage 1 chip fitted. That should get about 265BHP which is plenty.
There are too many modded Cosworths about. Nice mint/standard one's are getting very rare, and these are the one's holding there value's better than the rest.

I've always wanted an Escort Cosworth and If I had a Garage I'd swap the Impreza for one. However the one I'd only consider buying one if it was standard or just had the stage 1 chip fitted.

Also, tell him not to go for the headlight conversion. They just look naff to me. :nono:

Top car. Tell him to keep it that way :thumb:

The car is now more or less finished.Spent the whole day today helping polish and clean it.Gallons of waxoyl have been sprayed everywhere.A couple of areas were wet sanded and then the car was panelwiped and machined with 3M swirl remover and finesse.A coat of JEFFs Prime was then applied with a Porter Cable and a coat of JEFFs Acrylic Trigger applied. The finish is amazing with the JEFFs products.

Tracking was reset and the original Ford stereo is going back in.The clear side indicators were replaced with Ford ones and a lower splitter has to be fitted yet.

Looks so much nicer than the Scoob. :thumb:

Alloy wheels look tiny in comparison though. Just goes to show. 16" Alloys back then were deamed "Massive".

The more I look at that mint Cosworth, the more I really want one. Attachment 60764

Have been trying to convince him to get a set of 18 inch Rondells and a carbon front splitter to finish it off.The escort cos still looks awesome even after all these years and its the last proper RS so it will always be a special car.I remember seeing the first escort cossies at the RSOC national day in 1992 with the rally drivers thrashing them round Donnington.

Ben v7 10 October 2006 10:53 AM

The 18 inch Rondells would fit the bill perfectly... I'd definately stick those on if I were him. Stunning car and always a pleasure to see one on the road.

talizman 10 October 2006 11:25 AM

Off topic slightly, but man I love white STi's with gold PFF7's

Nice Cos too btw :thumb:

Great car and a cracking result. I do hope my eyes are wrong and there isn't overspray on the rear arm.

Attachment 60765

bmac800 10 October 2006 04:40 PM

The whole underside has been treated with black waxoyl so there is no overspray to be seen now.

An Ahmed Bayjoo chip, actuator and spark plugs were ordered today from Woodford garage so that should take it up to about 270bhp.:) And he was so impressed with the JEFFs products he ordered them as well - ussually if it costs more than £5 for a gallon he says its a waste of money.
