My new Scoobie has had Tarox discs put on the front. They have been put on with the outer edge of the groove hitting the pad first i.e. if you look at the upper half of the disc the grooves head forwards - that's bottom left to top right on the offside.

Does the previous owner and his mechanic know something I don't know or should they not be the other way round?

I'll wait to be corrected.
But I think its the cooling vains in the vented part in the middle of the disk that are the important bit!!!
Most are staight vains, but I think Tarox hand theirs!!

The grooves are the wrong way round, it should be the inner part of the groove that contacts the pad first, swap left to right and you should be ok.

my Pagids run the same way as Colin's.was told that they would work either way but brake dust is pushed into centre to keep groove cleaner, the guy mat have been full of pish though.

Strange - Black Diamond told me that Tarox discs should be the way round that mine are but a bloke at Tarox said they were the wrong way round.....seems to depend on who you speak to...

I'm trying to get in touch with my usual contact at Tarox and see what he says.

I would certainly have thought that Pagids should be rearwards facing though.

I had the same question when I fitted mine - the grooves should be pointing backwards...according to TarOx.

Just like to re-inforce the Pagids statement.

My Disks clearly marked nearside & offside and the outer edge of the groove does hit the pad first.

Yep - I know they look wrong - but this IS how they should be fitted.

Chris - as I understand it depends whether the groove's primary function is gas removal (backwards) or pad de-glazing (forwards).

Hi Colin
If this helps you the pictures are from the Tarox web site:

I am curious which type of Tarox discs do you have (sport japan, G88 etc)?
Cheers
JIM

Thanks for the pics Jim. Spoke to tarox today and yes that is indeed the correct way round. I'll need to swap mine now.

And yes, Chris, Pagid themselves say that their grooves should be the opposite way round - forward facing.

And yes, Dowser, both Pagid and Tarox said more grooves are more for degassing and hence should be backwards facing and less grooves are better for deglazing and should be forward facing.

Apparently if I'd watched the rally highlights closer when cars were in servicing I'd have seen that all rally cars have forward facing grooves and many have Pagid on.
