I've got a green one seems really good and isn't oiled

haroldhettaturbo 28 September 2006 11:06 PM

Andy at scooby clinic advised me K&N

joey_turbo 28 September 2006 11:07 PM

Thanks guys.
I thought green ones were oiled.
K&N's definatley are aren't they?

I just want to replace my ITG, as I've heard bad things about the oil on them.

STI or green filters are just paper - not oiled. I think a group test showed the green one came out tops - certainly during the WRC stuff on TV last weekend, the SWRT cars had a green filters in...

Always thought k&N wernt oiled,

but since you can buy a cleaning and re oil kit they must be.

Depends on your car, I fitted an STi filter to my JDM MY03 Spec C and it gave me 12bhp and 15lbs of torque, more than any of the scoobymag filters (probably added together ;))
Why? because it was designed for my car so bigger gains.
Each one is different, the original scoobymag test was also done on a wrx and not an STi so make your own minds up :)

How much are subaru standard filters?

TonyBurns 01 October 2006 11:45 PM

The STi filter isnt a standard filter, its a certified STi accessory for JDM cars, otherwise a normal filter?? 20 quid?

The Sti panel filter might not be the cheapest at £55.00 (inc) but it's certainly one of the very best available. :thumb:

Time and time again "tests" always conclude that the OEM filter works best - but then the filters are all compared straight out of the box and without any adjustment to mapping.

I can vaguely recall a mag carrying out what I would call a comprehensive test back in the 90s for hot hatches.
Flow rates and particle removal efficiencies for a range of filters were compared for new items but also USED ones with something like 10k miles on them.
I distinctly remember that the OEM filters were top of the heap when new but were surpassed by aftermarket ones towards the end of a filters life.

I've yet to see any worthwhile tests carried out on a range of filters for Subarus to date.

I have a Simota one on mine. They seem to be well regarded.

Its a service item, ie needs changing every 10-15k :)

Tony:)

So green it is then ;):D

Trap2Terrorist 02 October 2006 06:49 PM

GREEN panel filters ARE oiled and have to be re-oiled every 10k miles (or is it kilometers, can't remember :wonder: ). The cleaning kit is about £18, although I expect it covers more than one clean/re-oil process.

I had one in my bugeye without any probs but because of the stories of oiled filters affecting MAF's I took it out.

I now have an HKS Hybrid Panel Filter, bought from Osaka Autodesign in Cardiff. Cost £33 IIRC.

K&N are also oiled but only need cleaned every 50k and are easily available from yb filters in lancaster
