Who On Here Has Either Owned An Evo/Driven One??

Any Takers???

wilb 26 September 2006 05:31 PM

I drove one on a track day once, why?

PICKLE 26 September 2006 05:31 PM

Test drove an EVO 8 last week. Had my P1 up for sale as I was sure I would buy the EVO.

Drove it, and................. Hated it!!!

Keeping the P1 now! ;) :D

My brother Einstein RA, used to own a 400bhp Evo 7, he will be along shortly to answer any questions.

Just wondered if there was any converts from an Evo to their current mode of transport.

Or

If they driven one how do they feel it relates to their Car.

I considered an Evo before buying my WR1.

I had a test drive in an Evo FQ340 recently after the theft of my WR1.

I have just ordered a new Scoob lol.

I drove an Evo6 and a classic STI, the Impreza didn't compare in my opinion. They said they were both standard but the Evo was far better.

I walked into a Mitsi dealership with cash in my pocket, and asked for a test drive. The salesman said no chance as too many were being stolen.!?
I told him I wasn't going to give him loads of cash for a car I hadn't driven, and he said "If you wanted it you would buy one anyway". What a c0ck.

I then walked across the road, and got a Scooby test straight away and put a deposit down!

I used to have an Evo VI Tommi Mak in a previous life.

The Car was superb to drive but to live with it was a T W A T.

Problem after problem.

The Tiny Fuel Tank and the fact it was in for a service every 4500 Miles put me off getting another one this time around.

Opted for a new STI in Silver with PPP. Defo made the right choice but I feel after 4000 miles I could do with more POWER.

The Spec D I have coming will have the dealers own take on a 'Performance Pack' so should give around 350bhp on Super Unleaded. Hopefully that will be sufficient ;)

The Evo, very clinical and synthetic. With slight engine and chassis mods it can be made to go and handle extremely quickly. Dynamically it has the edge over the Impreza but lacks any personality and character. It is also costlier to run in my experience. The turning circle is also an issue on the them. After a few months I sold mine and went back to an Impreza eighty percent of the dynamics coupled with a healthy dose of character and less running costs. All this IMHO I hasten to add.

Agree with all that fella.

You`ve obviously had the pleasure.

I had mine up to 390 BHP but as you say there was no Character about it apart from the fact it liked to spend my money like it was going out of fashion.

Super pointy front end but the niggles out did the fun bit.

MattW 26 September 2006 06:14 PM

Had an Evo 8 FQ330 in between current and previous STis

ultraviolate 26 September 2006 06:27 PM

I had a test drive in p plate evo when i was getting shut of my classic. I had heard that if god drove a motor then he would drive an evo. I took it out expecting 0 to 60 in half a nano second and how disapointed was I? They arent that quick and the interior was pants and as for the rattles off the thing! well I just couldnt see what all the fuss was about so I bought another impreza

I thought I was the only one to feel so, don't get me wrong fantastic car but soulless.:thumb:

I went from my P1 to an EVO VIII 260. Very different to drive. I like the EVO (after 27,000miles of convincing myself) but the 260 is relatively slow compared to the P1. 4th gear acceleration in the EVO is like 5th in the P1 - it is that different.
Maybe if I had a 'proper' EVO then my opinion would sway but I still think the P1 was a better drivers' car.
The P1 did suffer understeer and had to be controlled more than when driving the EVO. You have to adapt your driving style to suit.

Depends what your after - I've done 800miles in one day in both cars and felt fine when finally getting out - although I have to get out of the EVO more often to fill the sodding thing up with petrol and take it to the dealer every 4,500miles
At least I don't get arm ache waiving to fellow owners anymore :freak3:

Martin WRX22 26 September 2006 07:57 PM

Evo Car Mag got exactly the same time around their track for a Evo IX FQ320 and for a Standard MY06 STI ; 1:26.1:lol1:

Whats the Standard STI, 276BHP??????.

Don`t think that would have impressed the Evo drivers:eek2: :hjtwofing

scoobytravis 26 September 2006 08:13 PM

Evo

Had an Evo 8 GSR (280hp) for 8 weeks (till it and my 99 UK spec scooby got nicked off the driveway) Had the scooby over 5 years!
Technically I would say the Evo was the better car, have driven a newer STI impreza several times, for more direct comaprison (can`t really compare the classic with newer models, would have to be Evo 6 v classic STI)

However...... am now buying a jap import Impreza STI (03 plate) to replace the Evo. Scooby definatley has more character, and there is little differenct for most drivers performance wise I think. (especially if comparing the JDM Impreza with twin scroll turbo etc......)

However, if looks of EVO are prefereed and rarity compared to Impreza, go for it, just expect it tobe a bit more to run.... servicing 4,500 miles, parts are a bit dearer and insurance al ittle bit more expensive. Would definately have kept it if it had not got nicked.

Had an Evo VI GSR when they 1st emerged, handled like a dream compared to a scoob but just preferred the scoob sound. Few years on briefly had a 400bhp Evo VII GSR which again handled wonderfully (much better than the VI) but was a killer on fuel and again the sound.......good but not a scoob!

Tim

ps you need to buy both really!

Hol 26 September 2006 08:56 PM

Better car as 'bog standard' IMHO. The AYC makes a huge diiferrence.

You need to compare like-for-like in the current line up though to get a fair understanding.

STI 2.0 PPP v's FQ300.
STI 2.5 PPP v's FQ320.

Comparing a FQ340/360 to a standard scoob is like comparing WRX to WR1.

Having written, that. who leaves either one standard for long???

As I said in the Thread mate, I had a Evo VI TME (got it new from Harrats in Barnsley).

Was just wondering about other peoples thoughts were.

Tim Bomford 26 September 2006 09:00 PM

Teach me to scan eh! Still the advise still stands...buy a Scoob too! When I ad the Evo VI I also had an STi 2 and could pick and choose between the 2 so was spoilt but I did use the Scoob more, not solely cos of the fuel consumption issues!

Wasn't that designation started from the Evo VIII?:wonder:
