Keyloggers

Hi people, my dad has asked me about tracking what my little brother has been doing on his PC. Hes had 2 previous PCs which have been killed in about 6 months use due to downloads and dodgy web sites my brother has been looking at, recently my Dad bought a new Dell PC and he wants this one to last but low and behold my brother has been on the PC alot of the time and closing sites down when Dad enters the room using MSN chat alot which again are being closed fairly rapidly alot of the time and Dad is worried about the crowd hes hanging around with especially when hes got one last year to finish at school and he doesnt want him throwing anything way as he is a bright lad. Dad told me how unhappy he is at the minute with him but doesnt want to ban him from using the PC as its mainly there for my brothers use for passing his school exams.

I mentioned there are software packages that are keyloggers etc but I know bugger all about them to point him in the right direction, can anyone help please? He is also a tight ar$e (as you may have guessed because of the Dell PC ;) ) so doubt he'll wanting to pay much if at all for anything so free or very budgetted stuff would be good please.

TIA.

Perfect keylogger is about the best of the off the shelf mainstream type available:

http://www.blazingtools.com/bpk.html

Doesn't miss much if anything, as well as key strokes can also capture IM and screen shots as well. Just be wary some AV software detects it so you will have to add ignore folders so it is ignored.

stilover, I told him its probably porn but Dad isnt convinced with whats happened to the previous 2 other PCs, I couldnt find any signs of porn when searching his last PC before it got scrapped etc.

LTL thanks for the link, sounds like a decent product although at a cost...lol

Don't let him on the computer then, or am I missing something :Suspiciou

Buy him some porn mags and get him a hooker and he'll leave the PC alone..........:thumb:

Setup a passworded logon for you and your dad and none for him, voila, problem solved.

:brickwall 90% of the reason they own a PC is for his school work.

I dont think Dad is too bothered about porn. After all he has a big enough collection as it is, I know cause I used to nick it when I lived there about 10 years ago :D

I still can't get my head around the legality of hardcore porn. It's illegal to broadcast on both terestial and sky TV in the UK AFIK, so why are we allowed to view it on the internet ?

Exactomundo, or remove IE so he can use the PC for homework & nothing else.........

Rather, on XP set up all passworded accounts - this should be the norm anyway. BUT give your brother (yeah, we all understand who it is really !!!) a normal user account, with admin accounts for your old man/you.

No problems, it really is one of the best simple solutions. As for cost, i thought everything was free on the internet ;).

Get yourself over to http://www.e-spy-software.com/download.shtml

download the trial version for 15 days - the main limitataion with the eval copy is it only provides continuous monitoring for 1 hour, you can restart the software as often as you like within the 15 day period it will let you see what your kid is up to.

It does not show up in installed programs and to the normal user is un-detectable.

If you need any help feel free to PM

Ah this is exactly what I've been after.

Got this woman at work that does nothing but surf the internet instead of doing work

I use "content advisor" at work to keep the workers working, set it up with a password and only allow certain sites in the allowed list.

Control panel

internet options

content

enable

You must set a new password first though then change it again, it can be set different to the logon password..

Trouble is the sites they are allowed vary alot, like searching for hotels etc., so would be hard to pinpoint exact sites.
