Boost Probs..

Hello all,

I have a 93WRX, jap import. I seems to be developing a slight problem with the boost, it is most noticable whilst in 5th gear and foot to the floor. From 2000-3000rpm it feels flat as a pancake, 3000-4000rpm acceleration is intermitant then 4000rpm and above it goes as you would expect. Boost gauge reads 7-8bar.

I have owned the car for a few months now and have always used 97ron. I have tried an ECU reset by means of disconnecting the battery for an hour, I cannot find the wires under the steering column, they obviously have not been used before and are well hidden (any clues would be gratefully accepted).

Is there something that I can try at home to remidy it before taking it to the Doctor? I can find my way around under the bonnet.

A TD05 Turbo on a 93WRX won't do much at 2000 - 3000rpm in 5th.
Boost appears to be OK at 0.8bar (not 7-8bar, I hope). It may be that you have a split up pipe which is slowing the spool slightly.

A tell tale sign of this is either a blowing noise from the turbo area, or on a cool morning steam comes out of the bonnet scoop momentarily, as the condensation in the up-pipe evaporates and comes out of the split.

Thank you. I will check it out and let you all know.

Found problem... One of the smaller hoses had gotton squished under the air intake. Un-squished it and seems to run a lot better. Phew!!
