Results of remap with Bob...2.5L

Well guys, Bob has done his magic..:notworthy

450/460 are the results with running about 1.6 bar:eek2: ...with few mods including 80mm MAF tube, hybrid samco induction hose (biT*h to fit due to turbo position/size), 3 port solenoid and Bob's sorting of vaccum and boost pipes from turbo with proper stuff, not flexi pipe which crimps, splits etc.

3 port solenoid and sorting the APS dual dump valve leak (cheers for advice to check it Bob:) ) has improved spool, the only thing I need to sort now is a decent FPR as my existing tails off from 4 bar at high revs - not safe....

Fitting SX reg and then having Bob do a final tweak...! I think Bob wants to run more advance once the reg is changed as he said the engine still sounds sweet at this level, apart from when the fuel drops off of course! Well done Bob for spotting this...

Engine misfire codes gone with two (or was it three? lol) ticks of boxes on the laptop...

Car much smoother running (sounds lovely full chat) and idle set back to 800-850 rpm instead of 1100, although still lumpy due to lary cams - doesn't cut out though;).

Very much recommend Bob as his knowledge is outstanding and he's happy to give advice and tips.:thumb:

neil@eclipse 21 September 2006 02:10 PM

What's the spec of your engine? :Suspiciou
Sound like good figures they do....!!!! :notworthy

swisstonihasher 21 September 2006 02:23 PM

List is endless...basics are:

2.5L with uprated internals, SC450 turbo, FMIC, water injection, 800cc injectors, etc etc..:freak3:

Varboy 21 September 2006 02:49 PM

lucky b

what does it drive like, what cars have you cained so far??

swisstonihasher 21 September 2006 03:16 PM

I know...lol:thumb:

None yet although did have couple of BM's from about the "15th" set of lights leaving Bob's place in Swindon...nothing flash yet though:norty: .

Haven't been able to push her hard yet as Bob advised not to can it for long with the FPR dropping off from approx 5000-6000 rpm:cry: , not safe so not recommended. Once reg changed (tonight or tomorrow), Bob will do final run and I'll let you know the end results...

She's fast and with 3 port, plus other mods, shes spools early and quick - nice kick in the pants...

jaytc2003 21 September 2006 03:18 PM

glad its all sorted for you now

swisstonihasher 21 September 2006 03:22 PM

Almost m8...just need decent FPR and then she's a done deal...:thumb:

WRX_Rich 21 September 2006 06:07 PM

glad its all sorted :)

and the large samco is a nasty nasty job

I bet that was fun trying to pin point the fuel preesure problem at high revs round swindon :D

swisstonihasher 22 September 2006 09:05 AM

It wasn't to bad actually...Bob easily spotting a problem during the mapping and then checked it using my SPA FP gauge...he could see the reg going no higher than 4 bar max...
Bob has this special road he uses (not saying which just in case any cops reading this!! lol:p ) and gives you chance to check alot of things during a foot down run.

Hope to see Bob for final run tomorrow evening...

log1 22 September 2006 07:02 PM

what clutch and gearbox are you running and where did you get your 80mm pipe for your maf sensor from ? thanks

swisstonihasher 23 September 2006 01:02 AM

No probs, UK sti8 6 speed with AP uprated Sti size clutch and fidanza flywheel...seems to be holding up well apart from the 5th gear small crunch when pushing her hard...usual problem I've heard though on 6 speeds...

scoobyDAZZA 23 September 2006 11:56 AM

good read
Bob does my mapping and i'm going the 2.5 route, with uprated internals end of the year , looks like i will be needing a bigger turbo, injectors and FPR now as well then ;)

SPEN555 23 September 2006 01:27 PM

Tony,

Have you got any pics of the engine bay?

p.s. sent my tube off today :D

Damian.

So did you have stock vacuum/boost pipes and Bob has replaced them with better stuff ? If so, what brand/type piping do you have now ?

Interested..

Bob Mapped my car about a month or 2 ago.

I still cant stop smiling when my car goes on boost.
Defo Recommend him

scoobyDAZZA 24 September 2006 01:39 AM

Damian, I have pics of engine bay pre-80mm MAF but not the latest...will take pics next time I'm out in her (which is asap!) - but I can't host them for a link from this site. Let me know your email address and I can send you some.

Re the pipes...Bob instantly changed the pipework that Scoobyclinic fitted as he said it's not boost pressure pipes - they were very flexible/thin wall pipes, likely to split etc:nono: and he wasn't at all happy with it. He also changed the vaccum pipe to the FPR as that also was a crap quality pipe that was crimping under vaccum - not safe.:(
The pipes used now are decent rubber hose, thick stuff, made for boost...see Demon Tweeks cat for type as they'll have boost pipework on sale.

Final results...wait for it :luxhello: 462/463 with SX reg and decent fuel map - she sounds so much better on chat than before...sweat runner and boost of 1 bar from just a fraction over 3,000 revs!! Boost now in the range of 1.6/1.65 bar in 4th and 5th!

On way back from final map, had silver sti run up behind me...gave it some teddy and after the third burn (I kept missing 3rd gear so he kept pulling away each time - I need more practice with this 6 speed selector) I left him, my spool up was much stronger than his.:D

WRX_Rich 25 September 2006 04:55 PM

im sure Im not the only one wanting to see the full spec :D

did you have much head work done?

Floyd 25 September 2006 09:56 PM

SPEC?

F ;)

jjcodex 27 September 2006 11:52 AM

So what are the EGT's now. I seem to recall them being hotter than the sun prior to Bobs work

Proteus 30 September 2006 04:08 PM

Is this the same car that you queried the AFRs and EGTs on another thread some weeks ago ?

I'm not after bringing all that back up again, just interested to hear if you got that sorted out OK.

swisstonihasher 01 October 2006 06:33 PM

Yep! That's the one...EGT's run upto about 915 deg max (seems to be spikes of temp that high) but around the 880-890 on boost most of the time. The engine no longer "smells" really hot like it did before.

You can tell Bob's setup the motor right as she sounds sweet. Even the tickover, which is now 800-850, isn't as lumpy nor does she cut out...excellent job by Bob.

Final tweak, with SX FPR fitted...464/463...and that's with a leaking 3 port solenoid! I'm getting the solenoid replacement under warranty but it has to come from the states...

swisstonihasher 01 October 2006 06:36 PM

Rich, re the spec...yes, Quick Motorsport did the head mods, including fitting of Piper 285 cams! These are wild and give decent power from 2500 revs but nowt below that...car just chugs if trying to boot her below 2500. Making a bar at just over 3000 revs now, which is mint, and I expect this to lower slightly once my leaking 3 port solenoid is replaced!

Damian, did Forge make you 80mm MAF tube yet? Those boys are excellent.

Just a note to make you laugh...I've had 5 people in the car now during a burn, 4 of them said "wow, okay, that's enough...its mental". Makes me smile every time im out in her.

Proteus 01 October 2006 07:11 PM

That's great - really pleased that you are happy with your car now. Nothing worse than a sick car !!

Did Bob give you any idea as to what was causing the problems ?

Tony I should have it by mid week I am told.

swisstonihasher 02 October 2006 03:37 PM

Cheers...she's mint now:D ...sounds lovely to.:luxhello:

Nothing in concrete there as Bob couldn't do a run with the old map - as I'd already changed the OE size MAF tube for a custom 80mm with hybrid samco inlet...these changes made car run even worse till remap.

Had few things...all a concern though...Wrong type of pipes used for turbo (as above), my fuel reg was naff and not safe on high power levels...plus dump valve was leaking boost from 0...Ah! All sorted by the main man Bob:notworthy

Floyd 02 October 2006 08:08 PM

I was most embarressed for Bob having to modify my car before mapping. I thought I'd prepared everything so that he wouldn't have to fix my car but no. I think Bob is resigned to having to fix a lot of cars before he can work the magic but some cars need more than others...
