confusing CV joint...
 

mine started making a clicking noise when i had the right hand lock on, did this for a month or so and now its gone quiet.......:wonder:

has something fallen off? what can have happened?:(

That indicates a need to be replaced usually. This is even more confusing than your perplexive Sta nav:confused:

Odd one prompted by Andy F looking at a mates car recently... think about the wheel bearing although this one sounds like a CV joint.

the joint wasnt very bad and i was told that it could go on for ages before i needed to change it. i tried not to use the full lock then today i realised it had gone quiet.......strange but true:wonder:

Theyre not that expensive neither. I paid $70 USD for a reman with a lifetime warranty.

there is a bit missing on the bottom pic, i gather this is the brocken CV joint. but if its broken shouldnt it still be there? :wonder:

No Sara! It's a broken CV joint BOOT, the rubber casing that contains the grease and protects the joint itself.:D

is it the same car in the pics cos there is something missing. i can see the missing rubber bit now :thumb:

no one has looked at my car and said that it was broken, i described the symptoms and was told it was the CV joint :D

You're being delibrately awkward! It's the damaged boot (the rubber bit) that has caused the Joint to click. Being damaged the grease has possibly been lost and lubrication to the joint has lessened. This is what is causing the clicking. Failure to replace said boot will cause the joint itself to fail. Therefore go back to the mechanic who told you it would be okay to drive and ask him if he will pay for a new joint when it fails!:D

It is the circular thingy connected to the hub. the rubber outer casing is the CV boot.:wonder: It is puzzling as to why yours has stopped clicking Possibly because of some lubrication working it's way back into it.

so i need a new boot then?...........possibly :D

No you prolly need a new cv joint, the boot is like a condom, it holds in all the lubricants, and protective grease to ensure the (cv) constant velocity joint is lubed, (bit like engine oil in the sump) the clicking is the balls in the joint hitting fthe outer part of the joint.

If its knocking/ clicking, its on the way out, it may take upto 2 years to go completly, but if it fails suddenly, it can flail around and cause huge amounts of damage.


Normally cv joints are competivly priced, and cost between £30-60 notes,, but you can bet as its a scoob, it will be between £300-600 notes
