Think the Royals own a few acres too.

Duchy of Cornwall owns a fair bit (Prince Charles in other words) although don't think he owns the most. Search the BBC website, they did a rather informative programme on this very subject about a year ago. Railtrack don't own diddly squat compared to some like the MOD, national trust etc.

Used to be the Church of England. Think you'll find it's the Forestry Commission which is the biggest in terms of area (closely followed by the MoD and other government / military agencies). Duke of Westminster holds the most in terms of value (about £4billion), but this accounts for only about 200 acres.

Duke of Westminster owns a lot of land and is in the process of trying to buy/develop land near Duxford imperial war museum. This is to build a service station, which would lead to aircraft from flying at Duxford.
So in my opinion he is a evil man!!!!!

Wife spied a bloke in London walking down the middle of the road & commented "Look at him, he thinks he owns the bloody place" to which I responded "He does, he's the Duke of Westminster".
S'pose you had to be there really............

Duke of Buccleugh owns a bit too. Much of the Forrestry Commision is leased from the wealthy aristos.
Somewhere there will be a list of land owners, much like the Sunday Times "Rich List" which is rubbish.
