Header Tanks

I think my header tank has had it on my93 wrx, seems to be leaking out around the top of the tank on the metal surround.

can someone point me in the direction of where i might get a metal header tank or even a replacement part?.

no doubt subaru will want a small fortune for one:mad:

Is it a one piece unit or two piece like on my bug? If it is two piece can you not seperate it, clean the mating faces and use a sealent such as hermetite to fix it. Just a thought Steve

Common problem I am afraid.
Get a new one, around £60 inc postage. RCMS.
You can bodge the O/e with Araldite or similar but you need a new one in the end.
Yours will probably have a non return valve in the feed pipe so do not be tempted to replace it with an alloy aluminium die cast item.

When mine went the pipes had all become brittle too, so be careful when pulling the hoses off ;)

thanks guys, think the pipes are ok its just gone around the joint on the top.

i will be browsing the websites and get a new one from one of you.

i assume that refilling the coolant isnt too much of a mammoth task?.

rossyboy 18 September 2006 10:21 AM

You wont need to change the coolant unless you want to. I managed to change my tank and I am a novice in doing work under the bonnet. Replace it when the coolant is cold and just make sure the pipes are kept pointing upwards or they will start to drop fluid. Keep lots of kitchen roll handy aswell.

I bought a metal one from a later spec car than my classic for £25 from www.essexsubarubreakers.co.uk. No point getting one new. You could also try Grade-a.

header tank

Hi mate,my tank went on my 1995 wrx and i managed to get a metal one second hand off a 1998 uk impreza. All i did was put a msg on the wanted forum.
The metal tank takes some fitting but with a bit of work it fit fine.
Hope that helps mate.

Cheers GRaham
