All you need is a decat down pipe which is in one piece. Quote car model year and any retailer who knows his arse from his elbow will supply the right one.

what do peeps reckon to haywood and scots exhausts?

hi mate. do what i did and get yourself on www.scoobyworld.co.uk look at the afterburner vortex decat stuff. i got the downpipe and centre section decat, and picked up a 2nd hand ninja backbox... nice system all in for around £350 notes (mainly the saving from the back box)... try the blitz nur spec r or afterburner/ninja backboxes depending on loudest/taste etc.
www.revolution.eu.com is good also or... h&s make good custom stuff. depends what you wanna pay, i persoannly wanted something simple, of a decent cost and excellent quality, straight off the shelf. and im happy with the mixture on my car, extra 20bhp or so, turbo spools quicker to due lack of back pressure from having no cats!!! good luck kidder. andy:D :thumb: |
Classics have a three piece exhaust, with one catalytic converter in the downpipe. Somewhat confusingly most centres (either plain or with a resonator) are marketed as de-cat pipes... The final piece is the rear section which includes the main silencer. New Age cars have a four piece exhaust system which contains (up to) two cats, with a third being found in the turbo up pipe (between the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger). A New Age downpipe is shorter than a Classics; followed by a short catalyst, a centre section and a rear section thats identical to a Classics, but with a slightly different hanger arangement.

Centre de-cat pipe, and then your choice of backbox depending on how loud you want it. Hayward & Scott, Magnex - nice burble but not that loud Ninja, Afterburner - as above but a bit louder Blitz, 5Zigen - ear piercing ;) As Choco says, have a look at Scoobyworld for some ideas, or H&S here: http://www.haywardandscott.co.uk/res...sp?category=13 |

Anyone got any pre 95 cars running without a lamba sensor and passing their mot's? Sorry for stealing/changing this thread :notworthy |

Imprezas only run in a closed loop up to 3000rpm so your lambda makes little difference. Cars not on the reference (all JDM Classics; especially those registered as 'Subaru Saloon' or 'Impreza GL') and built before September 1995 only need take a pre-cat test; which any Impreza should pass. Youd be surprised how few garages seem to know this though..........

As GC8 says above, I had this problem when my old WRX failed the cat test.
Discovered this info, went back to the MOT station and they then agreed to test it with the non-cat test which it passed easily. There is no exact match on the DOT register for WRXs/STis. |

Ive had a look on my log book and all it says is "SVA CERT ISSUED 29/01/2004 EMISSION LIMIT - AS DOT PUBLICATION" The car was imported by Vine Place motors on the above date so who keeps hold of the SVA cert because i hav'nt got it and last owner didnt either? Cheers. Paul. |
Look what I found:
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/publicat...&id=44af2e2033 Print that off and take it to your local MOT centre. |
heh thats a nice piece of info m8, cheers!

so in simple terms, my car will need a cat test, but as its an import, will not need specific limits? that means i should pop my old exhaust on for the mot. car was registered supposedly in december 95, but i know for a fact its got an older engine in it.
andy:) |
It hasnt got an older engine in it Andy; as I keep explaining to you, its an early model car (MY93), first used in 1995. Unfortunately you will have to pass a cat test because the regulations refer to 'first use' and not 'manufacture'.
