servicing parts

following on from my thread asking about servicing costs on a newage sti ,i think i will start to source a few service parts myself to keep the cost to a minimum.

my intention is to take it to a dealer for service, so would i need subaru parts ie, fuel/oil filter their reccommended oil plugs etc? or can i provide any make of parts myself.
thanks bob

i used to supply odd parts for my old classic with no problems.

to be honest the only subaru branded part you'll need to supply is a fuel filter. the price of the oil filter isn't worth buying yourself. i never had the balls to take a chance buying a cambelt that wasn't from main dealer (although i know they can be sourced for cheaper)

spark plugs are spark plugs, no worries there and you'll have to find a right arsey dealer who won't put in the oil you supply.

in all fairness to subaru dealers, the price of the parts isn't that daft, it's the labour fitting the bits that kills it!
