Gas/ Electric Question - House move
We've moved into our new house (:luxhello: ) a couple of weeks ago and are having trouble tracking down the gas/ electicity suppliers.
We've tried the obvious ones - but they've just told us that they don't supply that address. We'd go off and open accounts with new suppliers - but what about the exisitng ones? Is there a chance that we could get a bill out of the blue from some random power supplier? I tried calling the estate agent, but there's nothing on their files. What usually happens when you move home....? |
Just tap into next doors Gas supply.
One problem solved :) |
when we moved into our flat we signed up with a new supplier.
about 6 weeks after we had been there we got a very scary bill from the previous supplier which i disputed, and got halved.... |

For your elec supplier you need to call your local Meter Point Administration Service (MPAS)
For gas you either need to call Xoserve (previously called Transco) or if its an Independant Gas Transporter (IGT) site you need to call the actual IGT... If you post up your post code (even just the first part) or PM me with it i'll give you the numbers when i'm in work tomorrow... In case anyone is wondering yes i do work for a Utility Company, which i think you should all sign up for!! (i'll maybe reveal who later) |
Also, first thing to do is make sure that you have readings from both your gas and elec meters, if you don't already then take then TODAY and maybe check them again tomorrow so you can estimate what they would have been at when you moved in....
When you do find out who supplies you that way they can set up your new accounts with the correct start readings.... |
Chris-
I move into my new flat today. Would be great if you could get those numbers for me Postcode is EH11 Cheers :D |
For finding your gas supplier it should be - 0870 608 1524, this is Xoserve's number so if they can't find you on the system it may well be an IGT. If its a new house it is most likely an IGT, anything older than about 4-5 years will most likely be an Xoserve MPRN.
If you don't have luck with this number then PM me and i'll try and find out for you.... For finding out your elec supplier in the Glasgow / Edinburgh area (18000 MPAN) the number is 0845 270 9101... HTH |
Thanks Chris - Got the gas people - YHM re electricity
