Is it only when the car is started from cold and lasts a couple of mins? If so it is prob piston slap, it is quite comman and I have been told it is nothing to worry about as long as it is not burning oil?

If so, don't drive the car and don't even start it, it's very likely to be a big end bearing has gone and that means a rebuild. There are other much less serious possibilities that can account for a knocking sound, but a pronounced knocking noise esp at low revs usually means something terminal I'm afraid, especially in an import car of your years.

Give David a call at Api and ask him his opinion!

Good luck!!
