How many people had utter misery in getting to work today? I have never driven through so many floods in my life!

My cars sounded like it was farting the water was so deep at one crossroads, and it looked like Ivor the Engine with the amount of steam pouring out of the bonnet scoop.

There was even a Discovery stuck at one junction with water half up the doors.

There's big black clouds coming over, so it looks like the same for the way home again.

Glad I live on a mountain, there's gonna be some wet homes tonight.

Sounds like you're one of the people suffering from the 2 feet of standing water on some roads, that I heard about on the news.

Was pretty bad getting to work on the M4 today - but at least it was moving and the standing water wasn't too bad.

Stansted Express (!! not) not running - wrong sort of rain/wind (funny how they managed to keep the steam trains running) - bloody glad I've got this week off!!.

Went out to get a newspaper - three ways out of the village.
The first blocked by fallen power lines laying in flood water.
Went out the second and flood water up to the bottom of the sills.
Came back the third way - (no not that one) - the same.

Loads of stranded cars - not surprising as some of the Muppets were doing an impression of a speedboat going through six inch deep water - never learn do they - they will when their air filter inlet picks up a litre of water, hydraulic lock and the engine goed BANG!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Saw the same thing. I left for work this morning at about 6:45 this morning - I managed to get about a mile before everything ground to a halt. I tried various ways but I couldn't get anywhere.

I was going to try the M25 (shows you how desparate I was http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif), but then I heard that it was shut a several places - so I gave up and went home. Seeing as my company pays for my home ISDN line I can now sit on Scoobynet all day http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Yeah the route through from Guildford to Theale was a bit tricky, lots of surface water, somebody had obviously not made one corner, hence a delay... the A340 is a mess round Aldermaston way, seems to be a lake in that area now!

AWD 30 October 2000 01:47 PM

At least it seems to be drying off now - although I'm sure it will start pi55ing it down just in time for me to drive home on the M4 tonight.

Cheeky Jim 30 October 2000 03:42 PM

I was on the M4 last night at about 11pm and the outside lane was literally 6 inches deep, we were reduced to 40mph in the inside lane and it was still touch and go then!

Funny moment in London though, pulled up to a roundabout, I was going left, so in the inside lane, another Scooby (red with different exhaust....anyone here?) turning right, so in the right hand lane, and some chap in a Merc pulls up in the middle lane. Anyway, the lights go green, and suddenly this Merc has 2 Scoobies tonking past him either side, the sound was fab, from where I was sitting! Great laugh in the wet!!

My usual 9 minute work run turned into 1 and a 1/2 hours, mainly coz some of the puddles http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif looked a bit to big considering the sizes of the ones police had closed http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif. Would like to know just how deep a puddle scoob can go through if anyone knows.

Yep, traffic is still bad around the M3, some of the roads around Bassingstoke are bad too... think I drowned a fiesta that was going the opposite way.. oooppss.. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Wasn't much better this morning. I did get to work, but it still took me 2 1/2 hours to do a 50 min journey - nightmare!!

The M4 was ok (on the stretch that I use - from A4 until M4J6) this morning so I was ok. Quite a few people who I work with who use the M3 are still not in yet though.

I think they're now going to have to change the name of "the wetter the better" driving course to "the wetter the better up to a point" (the point being just below your door mirror http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif )
