Yes, 99RON as stated on Shell website... I haven't noticed much difference but then again I haven't driven it enough since putting in the new improved V-Power...

What does the 'V' stand for...?

y6ARM 04 September 2006 10:54 PM

I'm getting about 10% more MPG too after a few tanks of it :D

BlueSimon 05 September 2006 11:02 AM

Just to throw a spanner in the works :)

Ive done about 5% less mpg and the car has been spluttery when cold, but that was the first tank full ive just filled with another to give it a chance (99.9p) incase i got a bad tankfull (got it from the south :) now ive got a tank full of proper northern petrol )

I havn't been to the local'ish Shell garage yet.
Is the V power fuel more expensive than the old Optimax? If so, by how much has it differed?
And all this hype on here that it was going to be 100ron or more! pmsl :D

alcazar 05 September 2006 11:19 AM

I'm now sticking wherever possible to Tesco 99 RON, my car seems to like it better than Optimax, and it's cheaper, plus I get points on my clubcard, and every so often they do a scheme whereby if you spend over £50 on groceries instore, you can have 5p a litre off their fuel.

jaytc2003 05 September 2006 01:41 PM

yep tesco for me as well, currently 93.25p per litre (with an additional 5p off with a £50 shop), car likes it, I like it

i like the v-power fuel,it makes my classic feel like it has just come off a motorway run.top fuel

RapidSeven 06 September 2006 09:04 PM

Good stuff this V-Power im getting around 30 miles more on a full tank !

Cheers Shell.

96.9p in my local Shell :thumb:

tarmacterrorist 06 September 2006 10:32 PM

My classic seems to like it :)

Only on second tank & I can certainly notice a bit of difference.
My import has only a full decat with no remap so maybe the extra bit of RON is helping.

EOEUMC 07 September 2006 10:00 AM

Thanks Pauld37. That sounds pretty damn good too :D

Thats a big 10-4 good buddy! Tesco 99 rocks! Better all round perfomance I think!

i have put the tesco stuff in my v-tiwn bike and the wifes mk2 golf gti both love it but put v-power in the bmw in belguim car ran slugish.
spoke to a mate who is a tuner and he said that v-power only works well on cold days,if its hot it will run like sh*t.
which it did.

GC8 07 September 2006 11:38 AM

Tesco 99RON is diluted with ethanol to increase the resistance to knock and this lowers the calorific value. People who find it to be 'better' obviously benefit more from the increased advance, than they lose out from its lesser 'bang'.

I think that a non-ethanol mix 99RON fuel will be superior in every respect.

Everytime I go past the local Tesco station there's a huge queue of Taxis and battered old junk all pushing and shoving to the front. I can't be bothered queing for 1/2 hour to save a 20p a tank full so I always end up at the Shell station 1/2 a mile away.

I've noticed that as well - I can usually smell petrol :freak3: but more noticeable with V-Power...

Agree that Tesco 99RON is definately not as good a fuel... I don't mind paying an extra quid a tank for something that performs better both in terms of power and mpg.
