PLEASE HELP - steering wheel...

JamesyWRX320bhp 03 September 2006 09:10 AM

boing

miltski 03 September 2006 09:19 AM

it cant be the right allen key size then?
have you soaked it in wd and left it for a few hours first?
that normally helps things,

Fuzz 03 September 2006 09:28 AM

you use the word nuts, that's confusing, as allen keys don't undo nuts, they undo bolts.

Are the bolts drilled and tapped blind into the boss or are there nuts behind which you can grab hold of with a spanner??

Andy

JamesyWRX320bhp 03 September 2006 09:52 AM

the 6 little ones on the front of the wheel around the horn....sorry for the confusion!!:)

JamesyWRX320bhp 03 September 2006 05:59 PM

is that clearer?

Fuzz 03 September 2006 06:50 PM

It is and I think you're trying to undo "fake" screws....
Have you tried popping the centre out??

Maybe. :D

Andy

JamesyWRX320bhp 03 September 2006 09:29 PM

If only you could find a left one, you'd have a pair...;)

One large nut can't remember the size, is located under the centre of the wheel...:)

JamesyWRX320bhp 03 September 2006 10:13 PM

oooh i feel a left t!t coming on too (which should ease my embarssment!!)

so i just pop off the horn button, undo the big nut and the wheel will come off??

thanks so much for all your help!!

have you tried fitting the wheel?

By the looks of things the guy you bought it from didnt have a boss kit either so it should fit.

thats what i thought - fook it, maybe i should just try and fit it and see what happens??:lol1:

i just didnt get the whole boss thing...what does it actually do?

Fuzz 05 September 2006 07:56 PM

The boss is the bit with the big hole in the middle to bolt on the steering column.

If your new steering wheel doesn't have one column sized hole down the centre of it then you will need a boss.

How did the nardi steering wheel you had on originally, come off in the end??
One big nut in the centre, or 6 nuts round the outside??

hi mate, thanx for the advice....

Vegescoob 06 September 2006 10:01 AM

Hmm, I wonder if that wheel you're fitting will retain indicator cancelling.
Sometimes a problem with aftermarket wheels and bosses if the correct parts aren't used.
Suck it and see though.

ScuuBdoo 06 September 2006 02:21 PM

well? any luck with getting it fitted?

some pictures of the back of both wheels would help us to give you definitive answer.

Also, take note of the indicator stalk thing mentioed above. When I fitted an aftermarket and boss kit to my old car the indicators stopped self camcelling and the boss broke the horn connection.

phil739 06 September 2006 03:45 PM

i just changed mine , had a nardi wheel to start and chaged it for a momo one , just undid the six screws and fitted straight to that ... no need to take the boss kit from the nardi wheel off..

just looked at your pic and it was the same as mine

WRX_Dazza 06 September 2006 05:14 PM

where is he???
did anyone tell him to do the nut back up again before testing it???

Dazza :)

PS: I need a new steering wheel now, the old nardi looks soooo dated!!!

JamesyWRX320bhp 07 September 2006 11:35 PM

ha ha, thanx for the concern guys
