thicko alert.....!!

...im probably being really thick. but how do i remove the trim below the steering wheel on a MY00?? trying to get at the back of the fog light switches!! can only see clip on end, but doesnt seem to loosen much:wonder:

jd5217 01 September 2006 11:06 AM

there are a couple of screws too.

island991 01 September 2006 11:06 AM

hmmmm.....where?!!!

jd5217 01 September 2006 11:07 AM

yhpm

island991 01 September 2006 11:08 AM

Im thinking of doing these gauges myself. Has anyone in guernsey done this on a classic themselves?

jd5217 01 September 2006 11:09 AM

should be similar to a newage.

which gauges?

island991 01 September 2006 11:16 AM

boost and oil temp. I know its fairly straight forward (for people other than me!!). Boost from blanked off nipple ready for the job. and oil temp from top cyl3. But its avoiding hot bits with the wiring and general electrical stuff im not keen on.

jd5217 01 September 2006 11:20 AM

had a mate who is an electrical engineer sort the wiring on mine.

island991 01 September 2006 11:23 AM

Hmm....not sure i know any electrical engineers!!!

also i can find anything about removing trim in those pages.....anyone else able to help??!!!

jd5217 01 September 2006 11:28 AM

on mine there are 2 screws right at the bottom of the panel pointing up.

movi-star 01 September 2006 11:32 AM

There are 2 screws, one is where the bonnet release handle is, the second one is the other side low down. The top part is held down by clips which you can just pull off.

island991 01 September 2006 11:34 AM

hmm....some chance of me fitting gauges when i cant even get the first bit of trim off!!!:freak3: :iamwithst :cuckoo: :brickwall

jd5217 01 September 2006 11:35 AM

could be entertaining

jjones 01 September 2006 11:42 AM

stick then onto the dashboard with gripfill.

jd5217 01 September 2006 11:44 AM

and connect them to?

jjones 01 September 2006 11:50 AM

open the window a little and feed the tube for the boost pipe out of the window and in through the edge of the bonnet. try not to get it crimped else the boost gauge will give inaccurate results.

for illumination you can gripfill a maglight in front of gauges, at the correct angle.

island991 01 September 2006 11:52 AM

 shut up you lot!!!

managed it now!! just was investigating really! not actually attemping gauges today. Im intending to have a switch wired in so that i can turn off light feed to gauges if i want. (esp as im gonna have an a-piller set up, can imagine that on a simple motorway drive in the dark i might want them out of my vision for a while)

island991 01 September 2006 11:54 AM

how about feeding all tubes/wires out of bonnet scoop and gaffertaping them to the bonnet, then drilling a hole in windscreen to feed them through??

dependant on the gauges, the wiring for the lighting is built in and cannot be turned off.

island991 01 September 2006 12:00 PM

bugger

jd5217 01 September 2006 12:01 PM

island991 01 September 2006 12:06 PM

jd5217 01 September 2006 12:09 PM

island991 01 September 2006 12:14 PM

jd5217 01 September 2006 12:18 PM

Lucas House could probably fit them.

Go & speak to Nick.

island991 01 September 2006 12:24 PM

jd5217 01 September 2006 12:27 PM
