What do I do with Tax refund?

I looked at the figures on the final statement and they don't tie up with my P11d

If I adjust to the P11d submitted by my company I actually owe about £50 in tax

but they have given me £700+ back

Question is this final statement going to be looked at again?

Spend / Bank and review in a year / ring the tax office

I know what I want to do ;)

indeed what I have already started doing

Well if I was you I would ask them to check their figures again and see if you really are entitled to the money. The Tax Office are ruthless in getting their money back and have a lot of powers. They can chase you for debts from 10 years ago and have the powers to jail you and take your goods. They will stop at nothing to get their money back.

If the money is yours then enjoy it.

Send it back!!

There is a 14 year old single mother in Manchester who needs that money to bring up her 3 multi-cultural children!!

You or her??? Come on, pay up you greedy tax payer!!

I was once in a very similar position.

I spent the £1,400 refund they sent me. I double checked and all that.

When they realised their mistake the demanded the money back and gave me 14 days or threatened legal action that could result in huge fines or Jail

I am afraid you should really query it

I guess I would bank it and leave it for a year or 2

As for getting the money back of you they will always do a deal as I found out when they realised I wasn't entitled to Child Tax Credits after paying it to me for a year. Monthly repayments were agreed with no problem
