Hazard Relay?
 

This fault happened months ago, but i keep forgetting about it.

my hazard lights will not flash when the button is pressed (my97 wrx)
in fact they will not even come on, from the search i have just done, i think the indicators will not work unless the hazard button is connected, the indicators are FINE on the car, does the indicator setup use the hazard flasher relay?

or is there a dedicated relay, or maybe a fuse?

Not a scooby specific answer but a general motor electrics answer.

You are right that usually the normal indicators won't work if the hazard light switch is unplugged. The wiring to all four lights go through the hazard switch so that it can common them together when you want all 4 on with the hazards. So if it's unplugged nothing works.

Normally both the hazard and normal indicators use the same flasher unit.

One thing that may be your problem is power supplies. The normal indicators get their power from an ignition switched source via a fuse. The hazard lights need to work even with the ignition turned off so it comes from a separate unswitched power supply via a separate fuse. So if the hazard fuse is blown the normal indicators will still work.

The same fuse often supplies a number of other things that also need unswitched supplies, interior light, radio memory, clock spring to mind. So check the fuses and if anything else from the list above also doesn't work then that's a clue.

im afraid i checked all the fuses i could see in the fusebox :confused:

at least i know that the relay should be ok, wonder if i should go taking the switch apart :cuckoo:

nothing like that, its for a classic, took the switch apart yesterday

all is well, still no hazards will have to get a voltage tester and start probing about :eek:
