Woot - 4MB ADSL Upgrade FOC

I'm with Demon and they are upgrading their ADSL conns FOC to their users.

For me, this means an upgrade of 1Mb to 4Mb & it should be this week :D

My line would apparently max at 5.5Mb but I'm not going to u/grade (pay) to 8Mb for the (only) extra 1.5Mb, can't see the point.

Anyway, I don't care, just means my WFH will be a lot quicker :D

I thought that upgrading to Demon 8Meg was "standard" - why do you need to pay more?

mb (with Demon, but probably not capable of 8Meg due to crappy house wiring)

I'm Business 1000 at the moment & the upgrade path is Business 4000. Also no fair useage policy/cap, lower contention ratio & faster upload.

My line said it could handle 6 mb but wanadoo upgraded me from 2mb to 4mb and it was a load of poo - really poor and seemed sluggish apart from downloading things - I am now with tiscali 2mb and its running faster then when I was at 4mb with wanadoo (apart from downloading files) very weird

My 2mb Demon business ADSL got "upgraded" to "8mb" last week. I am now running at 0.4mbps!!!! All costing the usual £69 per month with a crappy support call centre in India.

Good value for money do you think?

Guess we'll have to see then but on the face of it - no.

I always find that if you ring after 19:00 the help desk are UK

sounds like your bras profile is stuck

it can take a couple of weeks for the 8mb broadband to settle down while they try and assess the maximum speed you can connect - I wouldn't panic yet.

So how do I unstick my bras?

I have installed the latest firmware for my router.

Just tested the connection speed to the US East coast. Currently running at 142kbps. How do they expect anyone to put up with this for any length of time? Mine is a business account & I need a reliable connection. Obviously Demon from India can't provide this!

I'm with Freedom2surf who use boosting to get me 8mb, as B.T could only offer 6mb. It's a pain though when the max line decides it only wants to give me 2mb occasionally and have to wai 72 hours to see if it's a line problem.

God help you if you ever need to do anything with demon customer services. They are the most useless bunch of **** I have ever encountered; threatening legal action over their breach of contract, and still they won't get a single thing right or call be back when they say they will (or ever). I'm quite happy to provide the facts to anyone who's interested, but not at the moment ass thanks to demon's cock-ups I'm presently using 48k dial-up for a few weeks.

I strongly recommend to anyone unfortunate enough to be with Demon - migrate to someone else at your earliest convenience, and never come back near demon again.
