there was a link to the video that showed these batteries alledgely blowing up on here months ago. seems it has taken a while for dell to own up :(

and there I was feeling all smug having macs, when I saw that bloody sony sold them to loads of other manufacturers, so it may not just affect Dell.

Yup, another nail in the coffin for Sony :thumb:

Hmmm, I did think that. set to cost the $430m +

kernel 17 August 2006 02:44 PM

$400 per exchanged battery seems a bit much!

Yep, heard about this last night, my laptop isnt affected, but then it was purchased about 6 months ago, DK's laptop is affected, so the battery has been removed for the time being

InvisibleMan 17 August 2006 04:00 PM

i think its dhell. This has happened a number of times & theyve blamed the part every time

Iain Young 17 August 2006 04:48 PM

Perhaps they're buying cheap parts?

Luckily mine's ok as well...

InvisibleMan 17 August 2006 05:09 PM

I had to check mine today as I have a Latitude thats a couple of months old. Fortunately my main battery is Korean (only Chinese and Japanese batteries affected apparently) and my spare battery isnt on the list.

I still think the latitude runs hot when on battery power, but guess this is just a "feature" :)

InvisibleMan 18 August 2006 11:36 AM

they run hot full stop, theyre sh*t

we've had some overheat because theres very litte ventilation into/out off
it in the first place so when theres dust in it, its going to pop. Open them up & check the regularly

Iain Young 18 August 2006 01:00 PM

We've got loads of them at work, and none of them have ever overheated or exploded. You may think they're rubbish, but we've had far better reliability from them than several other big name brands (IBM, Toshiba, Compaq etc)...
