STi Figures with Andy F Mods

Guys,

I run an 03 STI UK which has had a full exhaust (APS) including decat, Andy Forrest 18G Turbo, and remap.

Now, I got it rolling roaded the other day at my local place called Triton, they did the run in 3rd which I had never seen before (I have been told 4th with 6 speed car) and achieved 310BHP.

The car should according to andy be running between 350-370BHP, the rr showed that the boost was only hitting 1.38bar, and the car is mapped to 1.5bar, and its clearly not hitting this, even the defi's show around 1.4bar, now is this because of the heat in July?, or needs a service, or boost leak or what?

I am out of possible reasons?:wonder:

Speak to Andy.

pippyrips 16 August 2006 10:47 AM

i don't think you would loose 40+bhp - the heat has eased of over the last few weeks,,,

Jacey Boy 16 August 2006 10:47 AM

Have done, he thinks maybe the heat was the factor, but also said it should have been done in 4th and not 3rd, they have offered a free re-try to see so I shall wait until it gets a little colder

Can it be a boost leak?

Aztec Performance Ltd 16 August 2006 10:54 AM

Does it hit 1.5bar on the road in 3rd?

Aztec Performance Ltd 16 August 2006 10:56 AM

Its not uncommon to run cars in 3rd gear on the RR. I had mine done at WRC Tech (DD) and they run them in 3rd too.

and you should update your profile ;)

On a six speed box it is normal to do a power run in 4th, sometimes fifth.
However, depending on the type of dyno the ultimate Power At Wheels figure should be the same regardless of gear used.
What type of RR?
How is flywheel figure calculated.
As advised above, have a word with Andy.

Tidgy 16 August 2006 11:12 AM

different cars run in different gears on the dyno. i always understood it should be in 3rd for scoobs, all the people i know who have used him have said hes a top mapper so he knows his stuff.

Rolling Road

The road Roads use the 3rd or 4th gear dependant on the callibration software they are using !

Makes no power difference - Source Surrey Rolling Road (inde RR station !)

Aztec Performance Ltd 16 August 2006 11:20 AM

If you are having problems making bost on the road then its obvious that the RR figures will reflect this.

What are you using for boost control?

Are you able to hit 1.5bar when its cooler (ie at night)?

Are you monitoring your AFRs? Tend to go a bit richer when there is a boost leak.

Jay m A 16 August 2006 12:48 PM

Does it hit 1.5 in 6th? when the exhaust is red hot?

1.38 in third is probably about right unless you have gear dependant boost control (and that might not help), there may not be enough load on the engine to get the boost to build to 1.5 in 3rd.

It doesn't explain 1.38 bar on a 18g doing 310, but there are so many RR variables

Trap2Terrorist 16 August 2006 01:42 PM

Powerstation do their dyno runs in 4th for 5-speed boxes - can't confirm for 6-speeds.

What transmission loss are you able to calculate from power at the floywheel and power at the wheels?

Could be th RR is recording high differences between the two. :wonder:

Nothing, just the remap

Sometimes in 4th/5th/6th yes

Nope

Aztec Performance Ltd 16 August 2006 04:15 PM

What exactly is the issue?

1. You're not making the boost it was mapped for? - temps do have some effect in ECU controlled boost. If its anymore than that and your not hitting target boost even on cooler conditions check for a leak somewhere.

2. You're not making the boost on the RR which you normally get on the road? - not abnormal...you could run a manual boost controller to try and make the same boost on the RR as you get on the road.

Jacey Boy 16 August 2006 04:51 PM

Its def not boosting on the road to 1,5 unless in 6th, tried it on the way home tonight, 2nd is about 1.25 bar, 3rd/4th/5th 1.38 bar, and 6th just over 1.5 as the defi is telling me

swifty.....! 16 August 2006 05:04 PM

have you tried doing a reset?

Jacey Boy 16 August 2006 05:39 PM

No!:wonder:
How?:Suspiciou

swifty.....! 16 August 2006 05:50 PM

by disconnecting battery for 10 mins or so then should reset the the ecu then drive upto about 4000 revs keeping boost between 0.5 and 1bar of boost and drive around like this for a bit i.e like you would have done with andy.
then by doing this you'l know if you had a fault i.e keeping boost low if its the same after this then i'd check all pipes and listen for blowing etc also on uppipe and downpipe gaskets as leakage will effect it.
hope this helps

Jacey Boy 16 August 2006 06:51 PM

Might as well give it ago:thumb:

marklemac 16 August 2006 07:28 PM

IIRC, Newage ECU's don't reset by a short battery disconnect.

Get Triton to plug in their select monitor to do the reset.

Jase, have you got your dyno graph you can post online ?

Jacey Boy 16 August 2006 08:58 PM

Will do tomorrow mate:)

Neilo 16 August 2006 08:59 PM

you can reset the ecu in the way described..

Really?:wonder:

Neilo 16 August 2006 09:07 PM

yes.

the holding it at 0.5bar is key though.
