Not sure how many people are aware, but SAINSBURYS petrol stations are now selling 97 octane SUPER UNLEADED!!!!!!

Not sure whether this is a national thing, but Leamington Spa & Rugby have it.

Oh, and the other good thing is that it's MEGA CHEAP (well compared to your normal petrol stations it is!!! 83p a litre http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif)

I have had TWO tanks fulls in my highly moddied Escort Cossie, and there is no problems with performance or pinking!!!!!

If it goes national at sainsburys, Esso will price match, and it will come down everywhere. Any more reports? I will check my local sains tonight.

I've noticed this as well. My local (Old West Station, Tunbridge Wells) has 97 RON.

It would appear to me that they have replaced thier 'City Petrol' pumps with SUL ones. (hope they flushed them first!)

I'm not too convinced with Esso's price matching.
There is an Esso franchised dealer in Alperton and a non-franchised dealer almost within spitting distance.
The non-franchised is always at least a penny cheaper. Why!!!

Eastbourne Sainsbury's has had SUL for a few weeks now. It started at 82.5p and is now 84.5p. Much better than the local Esso which was charging 87.9p before the last increase. I did think I noticed a little hesitancy at high revs, but it should be OK, especially as I'm also using OB.

ooh! price matching for SUL, yummy! that would be nice. Would then seriously consider running the beasty on SUL instead of 95.

To be honest i've not really noticed too much difference between 95 & 97. I did a run to and from Münster in Germany a while back and use 98 (I love europe!) all the way there and back (approx 600 miles) and did not really notice much difference,well, apart from it being cheaper http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif, but we won't get into that.

Yup, Sainsbury's 97 RON here in Newport South Wales - 82.5 last time I filled there (a few weeks ago now) and your Sainsbury's loyalty card is worth and extra 1p per litre, and they used to do up to 4p per litr off if u spent > £100 (up till about a month ago at least - not sure today as haven't shopped there recently

Are you sure it's 97RON super (i.e. does it say that on the pump?). A few years ago Tesco's used to sell low-benzene unleaded (or was it low-sulphur?) which was dearer than normal unleaded but much cheaper than SUL or 4-star. I think it was about 2-3p a litre more than NUL.

Is there that much difference on SUL to normal UL??

I have been running normal UL on MY00 since I picked it up in May. I feel that the car goes perfectly well on it. What sort of difference are we talking??

Smoother? Better fuel Consumption? More Acceleration??

I just don't know!! So honest answers please to an honest question!

I too have a MY00 -- didn't notice any increase in 'go' with SUL although it did seem a bit smoother. No decrease in consumption either, even after four tanks, so I gave up and went back to NUL.

I run mine oN NUL for about 2K then thought I'd try SUL. Took about 60 miles and then the difference became noticeable. Quicker smoother pick and power tailer off far slower at high revs. Have gone back to NUL after a few tanks and you do notive the difference. Its not staggering but I think its worth is as and hesitation you might get with NUL seems to clear up.

Just what I've found. No major change in MPG, if there is any its minimal.

There is a massive difference if you run a turbo on SUL from day one and drive it really hard compared to a car that runs on normal unleaded and is driven really softly,cant give an exact bhp figure but I have driven enough MY00 turbos to see that there is a diference.

SUL at Savacenter in London Colney. Just off the M25 junction 22 so its almost like a service station.

I have noticed a slight performance difference between Savacenter fuel and Shell, but then the Supra is fitted with a knock sensor which retards the timing, so as it finds it doesnt like the fuel it drops the timing back a bit, and I can only tell by seat of the pants dyno....

If a bottle of Millers OB makes 2 octane difference on 50 litres what effect would putting 2 of them in make?
The obvious answer is 4 but does it work like that and will my MY00 like it?
Could I put in NUL and 2 bottles of Millers?
