Been to Marrakech?? Where to stay ??

Now that flight tickets have come down for direct flights Bird fancies going to Marrakech in early December and looking for recommendations on where to stay primarily. Anyother info gratefully received.

Looking for just a simple half decent place close to the main square or whatever it is you always see on TV !!

Thanks

Also the main square is a pain in the arse lots of tossers trying to sell you things dump snakes on you etc. Go to the berber villages in the mountains or find some tree climbing sheep

They are goats. And you will find them climbing Argan trees on the road from Marrakech to Essouira. Essouira is a very cool place on the Atlantic coast. There are some reasonably priced riads/hotels there.

I took these a couple of years ago, but I'm sure they are still there.

Yes the square - Jemmaa l'Fna is a zoo, but a laugh nonetheless. Best way to see it is to take a drink on one of the terraces of the Cafe de Paris. You can watch it all happening at a safe distance.

There's a lot to be said for staying in Marrakech. It's a really interesting and different. It should be reasonably quiet in December. It may be quite cold and wet then though. The best time to visit is March to early April, when it is comfortably warm and the High Atlas are still covered in snow. There are many peaks over 4000m. There's a ski resort of sorts not far from Marrakech.

If you want to go and visit the berber villages in the mountain valleys, you can hire a taxi for the day for about 600 dirhams (16 to the pound). He'll take you to shops and restaurants, where he gets a kickback, but it's not compulsory to agree to it.

You'll find hotels on the internet. In Marrakech I usually stay in the Es Saadi. It's quite upmarket, but it is very pleasant and the staff are very obliging.

I reckon there must have been a flash flood.
