New Paint Job

got bored with this ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/10...s/4f16e97d.jpg

red started getting chipped, flakey and crap, got quotes of £2000 to respray it all in white again

thought "f&ck it" and bought all the stuff myself

4.5 litres of paint, sanding stuff, airline, water trap, £20 spray gun from ebay etc etc ;)

finished result, still needs a bit of wet flatting and buffing, but i am having a break for a few days to let my fingers rest ;)

just took these pics round the corner of my apartment ;)

fitzscoob 09 August 2006 02:49 PM

looks very good mate, well done :)

kilo_4que 09 August 2006 03:27 PM

that is excellent mate,

have you had any car bodywork experience before?

StickyMicky 09 August 2006 03:30 PM

I've sprayed a few things with rattle cans??

used to work as a valeter for a bodyshop 10 years ago, so i asked a lot of questions

also went to carsprays.co.uk, printed out there guide for reference :D

1st time ever painting "properly with a gun, compressor and proper paint"

don't tell anybody ;) but i actually painted the car inside my carwash :lol1:

there was a large dent in the nearside back quarter that i knocked out and filled  (it was bad enough to smash the rear light  ) new front wing fitted after i dented it with a drifting accident/tank slapper at 60ish in 2cnd gear :lol1: i painted both full sides, rear door shuts, rear bootshuts, new bootlid (old one went rusty due to gay jap style rear spoiler) rear bumper/spats and splash guards, the match to the bonnet/front bumper and roof was dam close so i left them alone, rear arches were blended in up the C pillar as i could not be arsed to remove the wind deflectors :lol1:

rear arches and doors etc etc, were smoothed down (red paint round the rear left a 1mm lip at the joins) and then flashed over with some cheap ford white paint from ebay as a guide to see
1. if it would cover the red properly
2. i could paint it on without ballsing it up :D

yup there legacy wheels, fitted them around 1.5 years ago i think (brand spanky new, bought them from ebay from a bloke who had put around 50miles on them then changed them  )

£250 :D

you dont see them for sale very often :p

Swen6 09 August 2006 10:25 PM

Brave man, but top marks. Looks really good and the satisfaction must be on the large side, knowing that when you look at the car you can say, i did that.

Just make sure no ones near, might think your mad talking to yourself;)

Mac7611 09 August 2006 10:32 PM

this is the thing, the car was starting to piss me off, the red was flaking off, it was going to cost daft amounts to have it all put back to white, i figured that i could never sell it half white and half red, so i thought i would give it a shot,

TBH i have spent approx 15 hours on the o/s/f wing, this i bought from an importer as it was the same year car/colour and i figured i could swap it without anybody knowing that any paintwork had been done, only when i got it home and buffed it up i noticed it was rippled :(

so i spent around 15 hours smoothing it out and spraying it gloss black to check reflections etc etc, made sure it was right, and then painted it back to white, it came out so well, i then tackled the massive dent in the back quarter, spent the time getting the arch out as far as i could (i know a smart repair bloke and watched him work a few times and copied him although i did not have to worry about cracking paint lol) and just kept on smoothing and shaping it until it looked right, more coats of gloss black to check reflections before prime and paint, must have spent well over 20 hours just on the back arch TBH

spent lots and lots of time making sure it was right, so now when i look at the car i feel very proud :D

a bodyshop might have been able to do it quicker with all the correct tools and a few different people working on the job, but i know its all been keyed down properly and the paint should not flake off, and if it does, i will just paint it myself again :D

there are a few bits i am not happy with, but im a perfectionist, everybody who has seen it in person has been impressed, i am turning lots of jobs away now for paintwork :lol1:

great skill to learn TBH

i keep looking at mad candy style flip paints and wondering if i should

StickyMicky 09 August 2006 10:46 PM

few other pics WIP

cheap ford diamond white from ebay painted on over the red to see how it would cover

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/10...s/702e8d36.jpg

new ripple free wing painted and fitted to check colour match

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/10...08-06_1655.jpg

paint was not that bad from the gun

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/10...08-06_1654.jpg

wet sand with 1200 gritt and a quick buff with a machine polisher and G3 was all that was needed :)

full side painted last week, old bootlid still fitted, skirts not touched :D

.....give it a miss, yeah i agree:D

I did a lot of the work on my P1 spoiler, filling the logos on the end, repairing the damage [Got it from Grade A], but i was doing a lot of the work in the garden, in winter and wasn't getting the time before it got dark, also i've got a load of friends in a bodyshop, one of them said give it to him and he'd finish it for me, he did the last bits of filling and prep work then they painted it for me, i can claim half the credit:D

Lee247 09 August 2006 10:53 PM

fancy spraying my spoiler, f..ked if i can get the bastid right lol

salsa-king 10 August 2006 11:24 PM

have you done all the car in ford diamond white???

StickyMicky 11 August 2006 08:52 AM

noo

i just used a litre over the back quarters as it was much cheaper then the subaru paint, and i did not want to throw away good cash if i was crap at painting, when i discovered my hidden talents i bought the correct shade and painted away :D

although i could have bought 5 litres of ford white from ebay for around £50 IIRC

abd the paint shade would not have been "that" far off

kingofturds 11 August 2006 09:30 AM

excellent job:thumb: what was with the old paint job though it looks like a used tampon:D
