DV Soundoff... Well sort of!

Turbosmart Dual Port DV vs APS Twin vent DV.

Can anyone offer any information regards which is best and why? A very open ended question for anyone to post their thoughts.

Cheers.

DV soundoff? Mate; are you having a laugh?

Bat-Fink 08 August 2006 01:09 PM

He's just wondering what sounds better.

Oldfella 08 August 2006 01:10 PM

Please expand on this.....?

Sounds is something you could comment on.

Fuelling problems are another. Any thoughts welcome.

GC8 08 August 2006 01:16 PM

OEM turbochargers have an integral wastegate. F*ck-off big aftermarket turbos have an external wastegate and when they release excessive pressure they ted to be extremely loud. An external wastegate isnt something that you can fit in order to show off though..... ;)

I don't get your point? How can a simple open ended question be so hard to understand?

GC8 08 August 2006 01:17 PM

In virtually all applications VTA air bypass valves f*ck up fuelling. They serve no useful purpose at all.

But surely a dual port will minimise this problem?

I'm actually after "useful" advice regards the two DV suggested. I'm not really looking for opinions on whether to fit one or not. Having said that, please feel free to vent your opinion if you feel the need.

Hi Shaun, yip, that's the one and no DV at all. Don't you just love the sound of the turbo stalling :norty:

I'd be interested to hear informed opinions on this as well - the ones where at in "normal" driving it re-circs & under "hard" driving it VTA's ? Are these really any good

LUCK... I think it needs a miracle!!

Not to worry. Maybe since *I'm a chav wanting to attract attention* (I'm sure I felt some undertones) then surely I could sticker my car or do something else that clearly is a subjective choice?

... sticker the car,
... change the alloys....

jd5217 08 August 2006 01:55 PM

full rally slag on a WR1? :lol1:

Would have to go all the way and get the wide arches too.

I had a Blitz DV and the pops'n'bangs were frequent. Given the possibility of a few mods in the near future, would a remap help correct the fuelling and I could retain the Blitz DV and I wouldn't have to consider the Turbosmart Dual Port DV vs APS Twin vent DV. Basically as pointless as it is, I love the Blitz DV.

jd5217 08 August 2006 02:31 PM

i am getting quite a few pops & bangs from mine now the headers etc are coked up.

just nicer when cruising cause the aps doesnt vta, only hear the wastegate.

The APS one I mentioned does VTA. Derr, doesn't it?

Bat-Fink 08 August 2006 02:36 PM

That noise is nothing to do with you wastegate Steve.

Is it like this sound when the car comes off the throttle?

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...tter+wastegate

No such thing as wastegate chatter.

The noise which sounds like this compared to a D/V.

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...tter+wastegate

Is caused by blanking off the DV and what happens is.

When the throttle is closed instead of the air hitting the butterfly then coming out of the DV hence the hom noise.

What happens is the air hits the spinning compressor blades on the tirbo hence making the above sound as seen on that S13.

Some people say it does cause premature turbo failure but actually DVs are fitted mainly as a noise supression device as punters don't like their cars making dodgy noises which they don't know.

Plus standard ones are of the recircuitlating type not vent to atmosphere which make the hom noise.

As for turbo failure some turbos run fine yet others aren't so good.

But thats another debate alltogether.......

The turbosmart supersonic d/v sounds awsome in my and others opinion. as it happens, i have one for sale for £100 if you want to save a few quid. (£180+vat new). Only reason its for sale is i got a ssv with my fmic.:D Give us a shout if you want it....

jd5217 08 August 2006 02:45 PM

the aps only vents to atmos above 0.6 bar I think, the noise must be due to induction kit etc.
