Would like to know who will buy it and why.

I had the 535d i used to have fun with 330d's ;) So no doubt the 335d will be the same.

A nicely spec'd 335d M-Sport will set you back £42k ish! :eek: And it's only available in automatic. Still, at least that'll deter me from shelling out more money! LOL :D

LOL. I'm sure the calipers would be fine, until the first winter at any rate. Not considering a 335d as they're auto only and pretty dear to be honest. I'd take mine to DMS and get it upgraded if I really needed the grunt.

Have you had the bodykit stuff done to it yet? You were going to get some special bits added, weren't you?

Its only availiable in Auto because its BMW torquest engine (413 lb/ft)and they can't be bothered to beef up a manual gearbox

I can't understand why BMW can't or won't do a manual version. 413ft/lbs isn't that much more than the 369ft/lbs that the 330d produces. With a DMS chip, the 330d betters the 335d torque figure. Manual gearboxes and clutches seem OK following a DMS'ing. :)

I've had my 535d for about a month now. I have the re-map by e-maps which is similar to the DMS one. It makes quite a big change to the car. Not that it was slow to begin with.
I for one detested auto boxes and had to think long and hard about changing to one after owning both the M3, STI & EVO's but the power of the 535d sucked me in. I can honestly say I don't miss the manual at all. You have 3 differant modes to the auto box, drive (normal) drive sport (changes faster and revs to the red line) and manual (sequental lever up and down).
For the first week I was really at a end to which was the best for performance but as I got used to the car I usually just leave it in DS. If you slowly depress the accelerator the torque just takes off and the car speeds up quickly, floor it and the kickdown nearly takes your head off.

The 335d might have a differant engine in than that of the 535d. A lighter 6 pot with twin turbos but with similar power, all I can say is it will be very quick.
BMW's philophosy is to use auto boxes on big deisels I have heard that the manual won't take the power, but I'm sure they could make one that could but after driving the 535d with the auto box I feel that you don't really need one.

TBH after driving a bunch of BMW diesels, the bigger engines do work better with the autobox imo. The manuals are somewhat pointless interms of extra involvement as once moving, your always in a high gear and rarely need to change anyway.

Manual has its uses - especially on huge high revving n/a petrol engines (i.e GM's LS7 ), but then you would need to have a screw loose to have one anyway :D:thumb:.

But on big turbo diesels, auto all the way. :)

i have a 535d m and the gear box drives me nuts i hate it, would much prefer a manual version, only had the car 2 weeks and its driving me potty:cry:

I had the same reaction but give it time and get to know it. I really like it now. I find it's all about the power delivery, instead of just flooring it, feel the throttle and feel the TORQUE!

I guess they kind of "forgot" the Getrag 6-speed that went into the 8-series (and probably also the E39 M5) when they were spewing out their marketing bollocks. Over 600 lb/ft through the stock gearbox on the twin-turbo 5.0 V12 Dinan converted 850i. Probably had to uprate the clutch to get decent mileage out of it, no big deal. If BMW claim they don't have a gearbox that can handle the torque, they're basically admitting they've significantly reduced the level of engineering going into their products to make the thresholds much closer to that required by factory outputs... The old saying "they don't make 'em like they used to". I still think it's more down to marketing bollocks though.

Diesel or not, I have no interest in automatic gearboxes until they invent the automatic steering wheel and pedal box. That way I can go to sleep while the car drives me to my destination. In the meantime, when I'm driving I want to enjoy actually driving, which includes steering, braking, accelerating, and changing gear. It may be a chore to some of you old farts, but there are some of us left who still take pleasure in the involvement of driving, hence why we don't drive Mercedes with their huge power outputs but little else driver appeal :D.

All depends on what you want from the car.

I have an auto Audi A6, great, comfy, easy to drive, none of this clutch malarkey etc. Who GAF about driving fun when you've a 100 mile motorway journey ahead of you. Far more driving is like this so a large auto, for me, is far more approriate form of transport.

Then at the weekend, I take my Westfield out for PROPER uncompromised fun, none of these half measure road car hot hatch/scoob bollock5 ;) :D

It does indeed depend on what you want from the car. For me, whether I had a Westfield out for uncompromised fun, or a big Monaro VXR or AMG Mercedes with a 7 litre V12 for a 100 mile motorway journey, I would want a manual gearbox with a proper clutch and stick.

Would a 535d be as fast as my c32 AMG? It has approx 350BHP/350 lbs/ft. Looking for a replacement at some point, don't really want something slower than I've already got
