Which sat nav
I`m sure this question has been asked before but just wanting a little help?
Basicaly which sat nav is the best out of Road Angel Navigator 6000 @ 249.99 or tom tom one @ 249.99. I know the RA has camera alerts and stuff and wondered if the tom tom has this and can it downloaded on to it after. I am only really needing uk maps but can they be upgraded aswll if required. TomTom has maps for the whole world (I used the SE USA for my recent holiday to Florida)
TomTom can also be easily modified, using a card reader in a PC. HOWEVER I have TomTom for GPS (despite the RAC thing in the car! Charging for number of routes calculated, thieving money grabbing caring understanding nineties types). I also own a Road Angel (version 1). I have found the tomtom camera thing a little unreliable, in a false positive way, as it is not aware of the direction of travel as well as it seems more prone to the minimum distance - ie you can be driving along the motorway, and there is a camera on the A road you are crossing. Road Angel seems more direction savvy, but doesn't warn you what speed you should be doing. As much as it pains me, the best speed camera unit I've found is the Trackstar that comes with the car (for the free 3 month trial anyways). Direction and speed savvy. Though I must stress that I have RA version 1 - I don't know about later versions and also TomTom version 5 for a PDA. I don't rate any of them for mobile sites (might be some of the false positives from TT), an I have been zapped with the RA laser detector not knowing about it. I wonder what the grey laser/radar detectors are like? all IMHO |
