Steering Boots
My WRX Sti import failed MOT last Saturday ‘cause of split steering rack boots.
For convenience and because it’s close to home popped in to Kwik Fit to ask them if they could do it. After they finished laughing (literally), said “don’t touch Imprezas, too difficult to work on” A challenge then! Monday morning rang Subaru, Dennis Common in Northumberland. Always helped in the past. Spoke to great guy, Ian I think. Details given, even prepared to post parts to me. Boots arrived Thursday (£60 for the pair. Ouch!). Friday morning 6am: ß Car jacked up ß Wheels off ß Marked rack and tie rod end, measured distance and wrote it down ß Released tie rod end locking nut ß Remove split pin on tie rod end nut ß Remove tie rod end nut ß Put nut half back on ß Tap nut to release tie rod end ß Remove tie rod end, counting number of turns ß Remove locking nut and then remove boot ß Assembly was classic reverse of the above 90 minutes later drove off. This by a real amateur. Thanks Kwik Fit, probably saved me a fortune. Real thanks again to the guy at Dennis Common parts department. Brilliant service!:thumb: MOT this morning all clear. |
