Strange emails - help please

I can't get my head around this one :(
A month ago I joined another car BBS and since then I have had emails (in my spam folder) supposedly from people on the site. I have not opened them, deleted them straight away. I questioned them and was told they had not sent them, but if they had attatchements, not to open them under any circumstances. I took heed of this. I am rather worried in case a virus is trying to get into my computer. Do I open a thread on the board asking if anyone else is experienceing this (they must be as I have even had an email from myself :cuckoo: )
Also, if someone on the site has a virus and is unaware of it, how do I stop it getting into my computer.
I have Norton and Microsoft Defender.
I have never had this happen before and am totally lost as to what to do :( :(
btw, Norton and Defender say everything is working fine and no problems, but I am worried about the "just in case" element.
Hope this makes some sense, I am crap at explaining things

A while back i received an e-mail from a .mate telling me to have a look at a particular website he had created, I did this & then found i had succesfully loaded spywarequake to my PC, feckin great.... took me a good few days to get rid of this crap with the help of the following instructions from this site http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=88420

Apparantly this little program had accessed my mates e-mail address book and fired a forwarding e-mail to everyone in his addy list...in reality i should of known something was wrong with his e-mail because the name of his new website was dodgy sounding. So you see what can happen :thumb:

The car site must have a list of everyones e-mail addresses and its a virus at their side of things infiltrating their e-mail server and doing auto sends.

I would advise a simple change of address with your internet providers website tools.

e.g. sign in to btconnect or whatever ISP you are with and add a new e-mail address similar to you own and set up a password. Do not add this to outlook yet. First remove and note down details of your main e-mail address and then no-one can target this address.

lightning,
I did what you said last night, no emails this morning, but my email has gone back to my original one and my password has not been changed. I think I am going to have to talk to one of the mods on the site :) :)
