LOL. You have cracked it;)

Just been on a four week trip on a project in NZ.
Out of that...about a week of it was worked.
The rest consisted of sunbathing, trips to the boozer and watching movies.

Bad points to the trip.....sunburn, sore head and.....a small earthquake causing a large wave to hit the ship beam on in the early morning. Damaged the crane and the structure it was attached to on the sea bed and the mess it made in the galley when our breakfast took off across the tables and the cupboards spilled out!!!

All good fun

Hmmm, will need to look into this one further as one of our guys was on a course with an "NDT" guy who was on £800 a day (apparently) Could just have been pub talk though.

Happy doing the Lay systems just now. Coin is okay and the time off is sound.
However, if an oppertunity with more candy should come along..........:luxhello:

ndt crew 15 April 2007 09:08 AM

pub talk

AndyP's_P1 15 April 2007 10:39 AM

If it was 800 badge a day then there would be no jobs going as everyone would be doing it!

Youd be lucky if the OIM was on that a day

HI SOOB 15 April 2007 11:01 AM

Well thats what I thought.
Couldn't see how he was on that rate, as you say, OIM territory those figures.

RA Dunk 15 April 2007 01:50 PM

company man 1200 a day

doug2507 18 April 2007 10:08 PM

Well, since i started the thread i thought i'd better let you know how its going. Just got qualified in mpi/dp snt L2, ut snt L1 and rope.a L1. Ec pcn L1 next week then rgit and hopefully into a job a couple of weeks after. Must say i'm totally enjoying it and cant wait to get up in the clouds somewhere be it on or offshore. Defo a good move leaving the forces whilst i'm still young(ish).

All training is being done with Talon NDT and they're very good. Big thumbs up to Ian for running top notch courses. Looking to get a job with rbg but will settle for anyone that pays the right money.:D

And there's more NDT work than there is bod's to do it so if you're struggling to get a job then you've got the blinkers on.

doug2507 25 April 2007 10:56 PM

Anyone here work for ndt/rope companies in aberdeen? I've got my c.v ready to go and could do with a few pointers as to who might be looking for people......or better still, the right person to talk to instead of leaving at the bottom of the pile with a receptionist...

HI SOOB 16 July 2007 05:34 PM

Where is everyone just now?
Work or Play???

Im back in a couple of weeks from this trip.
Busy baby sitting our kit while the construction guys do some work with covers and spools.
Sounds like a good number sitting on yer back side for two weeks but belive me, there is only so much TV and internet you can take!!!!!
Plus its Norway, so the weather is...........Norwegian!!!!!

fonzy 17 July 2007 11:03 AM

I've heard Apache are looking for around 15 Techs, mostly Prodies to go 2 on 3 off. Depending on experience you'd be on around £40k + offshore allowance. Which from memory is around £12k?

HI SOOB 17 July 2007 11:39 AM

That rotation sounds not too bad if its what you want.
I prefer longer trips for longer time off.
50K isnt too bad either, like you say, depends on what experience you need to have for that figure.

Anyone on here work for Sonsub???

Dougster 17 July 2007 03:51 PM

"The rest consisted of sunbathing, trips to the boozer and watching movies."

Where do I sign up!

I have the perfect qualifications being a non-swimming ex social worker with HGV license.......DOH!!

H1 5OOB, I'll come out and rub lotion into your fore dome as that's a job in itself!!

YHM bud.

HI SOOB 17 July 2007 06:28 PM

Doug,
You are over qualified.
I can barely read or write.

The lotion application would only be a part time number since the weather isnt always nice. Right now the only job you could have would be bringing me a fresh towel to the Sauna.:D

WUZ 18 July 2007 02:09 PM

1200 a day for a company man :D Pounds or Dollars?

Pushing Tools (Nights) only gives £78K/year.but it's TAX FREE!

And no hanging around on ropes wither!

Doug, PM me your mobile number and we'll chat M8, brother in law is working for oceaneering as a Rope Access Technician.he ain't on £800 a day...but he ain't far off it and he's ex-forces as well (45 Commando, Condor)

Russell

Dougster 18 July 2007 06:38 PM

I'm coming nowhere near you in the sauna Jamie!!

student_11 08 March 2011 06:42 PM

Hi,
I am a student currently completing a PhD on safety in the offshore industry. I have carried out a questionnaire in one rig but unfortunately I am still short of participants to enable me to complete the study. I have found it particularly difficult to gain access to more rigs.
I wondered if any offshore workers, who have a spare 10 minutes would mind filling out a questionnaire for me. It is completely anonymous and confidential and would really help me complete my studies.
If so, please let me know and I can forward you the questionnaire.
Thank you for any help.

g7prs 08 March 2011 07:34 PM

The thread you have brought back up is four years old. It can be quite quiet in this section. You might have more luck posting on the scottish section of

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/f...=0&f=118&mid=0

or

http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forum/11-scottish-scoobies/

Both have lots of off shore workers that i would imagine will be willing to help out.

Paul.

student_11 08 March 2011 10:23 PM

Thanks Paul, that is really helpful, I appreciate it.
