Plastic engine undertray - quick answer needed
 

The plastic undertray underneath the engine, does this need to be in place for any specific reason or can I just remove it? Is it easy to this?

Mine has just fallen off at the front edge and is catching on the road, but I'm away this weekend and need the car - ubt at work tomorrow, so can't sort then, it need sorting tonight.

If it needs to be in place, does it just bolt in? any idea what size bolts if so?

I know this is in the wrong place, but I need a quick answer before it get dark.

I know a guy who removed his because he was sick of losing tools down there, now they just fall through. Quite a few people remove them with no negative effects as it is quite common for them to fall off, so I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem.

If you've got a hot engine and go through a cold puddle with no engine sheild theres a slight chance you could crack the block or head with the water splash, just the same as topping your rad up with cold water in a hot engine. I'd put it back on b4 the winter comes if I were in your shoes.

and running without the cover makes the engine bay dirty

leave it off, it helps cool things down a bit, mines been off for years, winter and summer, all the guys running big power sack theirs.

its there to smooth out airflow under the car audi and porsche were doing it years ago when they started designing cars in wind tunnels ( and itl do no harm removing it)

What model is your car as im sure the newage ones have a plastic cover over the gearbox not to sure with the classic but a quick trip on the motorway will rip it straight off, so if it has one take it off also!;)
