What mods for a 94 wrx?
 

Hi guys,
new here so don't tear me apart. plz

Thinking of buying a wrx around the 94 year.
What i realy want know is what mods are avaliable to me with this model.
What things should i do first etc and what gains will i have and problems.
Also the cost?

Right, here goes;

1) Service. Whenever I buy a second hand car, this the first thing that is done. Being 94' import, i'd imagine that the service history will be a bit sketchy to say the least. Make sure you do the lot, i.e engine oil, trans and iff oil, coolant, brake fluid, all filters, cambelt if not recently changed.

2) Make sure the tyres, brake and suspension parts are in good condition, otherwise you'll be wasting money on mods.

3) Start with a full decat system (downpipe, center and back box). I recommend Hayward and Scott.

4) Upgrade panel filter.

5) Get an Apexi FC ecu fitted and mapped by a pro. (www.andyforrest.co.uk)

This little lost will set you back around £2000 and give around 300bhp on your TD05 turbo. If you want anymore than this, then you'll need to start looking at bigger turbos, intercooler, big brakes,uprated suspension, clutch etc etc.

so what is the standard power on the wrx, iwas told they struggle to get there power due to the difference in fuel here.
i agree' i to always service mine, cant trust it otherwise.
Thats a lot of power gained for a exhaust, filter and remapped ecu.

Or just buy a 95 model and get an instant 20 BHP upgrade ;)

Chris is spot on though make sure it's all in perfect order before even thinking about making it go faster.I'd put 4 pot brakes in that list though before anything as the brakes are nothing short of usless one mine.If it hasn't got even a stainless backbox and you can't afford a full system i've got just a Magnex oval backbox and it's transformed the noise and presence of the car.

94 is 240 brake
95 is 260 brake

I think the later WRX's are 280 and the STi's are about the same or a bit more??

How much power do they lose through the transmission?
Might have to save harder and get an 95> model instead.

Well the 93 and 94 model's have 240 brake..mainly down to a smaller turbo and diff. mapping.

I've had an L reg now I've got an M reg :) TBH the L reg was a lot quicker because it had no CAT's and a large bore exhaust which made the turbo spool up instantly.Mine new ones got AC and electric folding mirrors though which is nice..oh and ABS :) There's that many out there don't just pick the first one you see.

is there any thing i should look out for apart from the norm when i buy one.
any common faults etc, if any?

They are a VERY reliable car if not messed with.

But these cars get messed with left right and centre..boost increases..accident damage etc.Other than the normal stuff i'd say get one that's had as few owners as possible maybe one that was imported say 4 years ago and has only had one owner since it's been here and has been serviced well whilst it's been here.Have a chat with scoobyclinic or some other big names in the game and maybe a customers car might be up for sale that they know well??

End of the day it's all about how much money you've got mate.

The turbo is the same (TD05) for all the 92-96 WRXs and possibly even beyond that year, though I haven't researched this...
