Jeep 5.7 Hemi
Thinking of taking a serious look at one of these, I have 5 dogs! Loathed to ditch the scoob but figured I'd at least still get some good noises/performance if I went for one of these?
Any one know much about them/driven one? Any good forums out there? Thanks |
I have one mate! What sort of dogs do you have? I have a pair of rotties and they can't really fit in the boot, seats have to be down for them to be able to lie down! Clarkson slated it in his Sunday Times review, and TBH I agree with most of what he said!
The reason I have one is I recently moved to Texas, and with the flash flooding, the easy potential for off roading, and every other vehicle being at least eight feet tall, we wanted a 4X4. The Jeep HEMI was by far the quickest we could afford, as the X5 and the Cayenne Turbo were out of reach! It's not a bad motor, but it's far from great! Obviously there are handling issues, in a straight line it's pretty nimble at around 7 secs to 60, it does sound good (I'm adding a Borla exhaust system to get the most from the V8 and add potentially 20% increase in bhp so up to 400 ish), the leather isn't great inside, the navigation is just stupid (don't know if it will be same in UK??) and it is pretty small, I'm 6'4" and with seat at it's lowest I have less than an inch headroom. But as far as SUV's go, compared to the Fords, Chevy's, and even the Subaru Tribeca thingy, the Jeep is much better! It is a very capable 4x4.. It does have a luxury feel about it (despite the plasticy leather), it does look nice IMO and when you plant your foot at over 60mph it really goes! :D More torque than a lambo gallardo........ If I couldn't afford a Cayenne Turbo this is second best IMO. Have you had a look at the Jeep SRT 8? That's next on my list in about twelve months! http://www.drivesrt.com/ 0-60 in UNDER 5 SECONDS! :norty: 430odd bhp! Oh, the other great thing about the Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7l HEMI V8 Limited........... It only cost me $38,000! Just shy of twenty grand sterling! |
15 MPG, you lot must have company petrol cards !
|
15MPG? You must be joking!
I'm averaging 10! |
Thanks for the reply - I have 2 rotties, a boxer and two english bull terriers. I see your point re: the boot since my trip to the dealer today! I also agree that it needs an exhaust to let the roar out as it was amazingly quiet and you'd be pushed to guess it had a 5.7 V8 lump in there!
I haven't test driven one yet so can't comment any further but thanks for your feedback. I was a bit put off by the high servicing frequency/cost in particular the major service at 24K coming in at £680!!!! |
'I have 2 rotties, a boxer and two english bull terriers'
I would get them to tip up a few quid for petrol. 10 MPG is obscene, to get to the 680 quid service would require 10 and half grands worth of juice. |
I've actually got it up to 13 mpg this weekend as I took a 125 mile round trip to the beach! :lol1:
What are you considering now? The servicing here in Texas is worse as they recommend shorter intervals due to the extreme heat! :wonder: |
98.9 per litre now here !
|
I've just sourced a Borla exhasut system, the whole system costs $800 which I think is pretty good value and apparently adds generous amounts of power and rumble..............
Everyone is moaning about the petrol being $3 a GALLON here, although it was $2.30 a GALLON when I arrived in October, so quite a leap. Apparently three years ago it was just over one dollar a GALLON.......... |
good I hope gas price over there rises to the same level as ours to get those yanks out of the pointless SUV's.

yank gallons, but i don't think there is much in it, half a litre difference?
|
Two pints I thought, so maybe as much as a litre?
|
3.7854118 litres vs 4.54609188 litres
therefore 10mpg (US) = 12mpg (real) |
 I don't think the gas pumps measure to that accuracy!
|
I ran with a Borla system on my C5 and it was bliss!! Does release a bit of power too, engine feels much nicer. Mine rolled at 400/400 with Borla, twin intakes / MAF and PCM. Sold it 2 years ago though
|
I think there's one of these that drags at York. He's hoping to hit 10s shortly.:luxhello:

There is a Jeep SRT that was released a few months after I bought mine  and it runs about 430 bhp and tons of torque, 60 in under 5 seconds, the benchmark was the Cayenne Turbo in production, apparently! And in the states it's something stupid like $39,000! :thumb: Couple of years of depreciation to suffer on mine before I can upgrade tho...... |
american 0-60 figures that wont be achievable in real life though
