Sti intercooler onto a my 99 classic
Hi all
Thinking of getting an sti intercooler for my99 classic. Will it be a straight replacment and will it make any difference?? cheers Dave |
If you mean a STi7/8 then here's a DIY guide I published a few months back
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...ht=intercooler |
Thanks for that m8.
is it worth doing did it make any difference? cheers Dave |
I didn't change it to try and make any real perfomance difference.
I was running on the limit of the MY00 intercooler, so added the STi one for safety more than anything. However a My00 intercooler with a mug of water poured on it before a RR run gave 15bhp more then the previous run without water. So I guess it does make a differemce. I have put an extra degree of advance in on the map and may be able to get a little more ;) |
Just fitted an STi8 intercooler to my UK MY99 tuned to 301 bhp/285 lb/ft (Powerstation RR).
Compared to the original .............. Used to get a post-i/c temp increase of 15-20 deg when booting hard up to 90mph. With the STi8 only get 5 degrees or so. Big difference which must improve power. |
Hi
so i can just follow the guide and plonk won on and run it on the standard map?? Cheers DAve |
Should be fine. I thought I would have to adjust the boost settings in the PFC due to less of a pressure drop across the cooler. But they stayed pretty much the same.
If you find boost does increase and cuase problems just fit a slightly different sizes restrictor in the boost control pipe (near T-piece coming of turbo nipple). A bigger hole in the restrictor will drop the boost. But beware you only need to adjust the size by 0.05 - 0.1mm |
definate improvement in temperature fall over 300 yds temperature drops about 10 degrees. need for bigger scoop should be considered. I use sti7 replica from dr motorsport.
