With or Without??

I've been thinking about removing the rear wing for some time now and while cleaning the car yesterday i thought I'd see what it looked like, so i got the socket set out and took it of.

I must admit that i like it, make a change IMO.

What do you think??

I would say with. The new ages look better in wingless mode.

turboDean 15 July 2006 11:37 AM

Definatly with.

wilb 15 July 2006 11:46 AM

Needs the wing.

TI7OJO 15 July 2006 11:51 AM

Dont do it. :nono:

Harty2000 15 July 2006 12:03 PM

In my opinion I would do the opposite and fit a bigger wing. A sti5 or 6 spoiler would look amazing on your car

I'm with theotherphil at the moment make it look very different from every other scoob on the road, mind you the missus say it looks like a Mondeo but what does she know it took her 20 mins to realise I'd take it off.

I'm definitely not getting a bigger wing.

PS: phil is that a BMW boot lip you have like RON's car??? if so how much was it and what model is it made for e46??

drb5 15 July 2006 12:41 PM

Without and lower it some more. ;)

DannyBoy007 15 July 2006 12:48 PM

Being a big fan of the STI6 spoiler, I can't beleive I'm saying this but "without"!!!!!

Curtiz 15 July 2006 12:58 PM

Yep, it's a BMW M spoiler...blatantly copied from RON's car :D :norty: It cost about £80 with the sticky tape to fit it (also from BMW). It's from the 2000 model 3 series whatever "E" number that is :Suspiciou

Edit: In fact, I think it's off the BMW model in your first pic :D

Nice one, i think i may be joining the racks of the wingless GC8's (another shameless RON clone;) ) I take it you had it painted yourself?

theotherphil 15 July 2006 01:29 PM

Yeah, it comes already primed but shouldn't cost too much to paint and have the original holes welded and bootlid painted. I had all the dents and scratches removed from the rear doors, wings, bumper and then painted. Bootlid welded and painted with the spoiler for £250

Here's the part numbers for reference:

M Spoiler - B51.71.7.893.671
Tape - B5171.7.901.759

Total cost £86.01

RoRu 15 July 2006 01:43 PM

Cheers mate.:D

scoobfan 15 July 2006 02:29 PM

I quite like it without.

Save weight, reduce drag and increase speed.

And stealth.;)

Yeah, I was very surprised at how much more stable my car was at speeds above 90ish. With the V4 spoiler I had fitted previously, the car would weave a little and took minute adjustments on the steering to keep straight....you could literally feel the downforce! With the smaller spoiler, it tracks straight and gives much more confidence at high speeds.

scoobyDAZZA 15 July 2006 05:16 PM

till you come to change lanes lol

i removed mine when it was in for spraying and i contempleted leaving it off , but after having a 'spirited' run up the M5 spoilerless i soon changed my mind

i have bought a wrx bootlid with small spoiler though, i use that travelling to drag strips, then just take the spoiler off when i'm there . . . when i remember me deep sockets, lol.

but gotta say , yours looks awesome de-spoilered ;)
