Following a post last week, I went ahead and got my mirrors, side skirt and "back bits" colour coded.

Also de-badged it and fitted clear indicator/repeater lenses - looks great!

The only problem is I noticed that there is a rubber seal that runs along the top of the side skirts. When I examined it closely after the picking up the car i found that the paint came of this seal a bit too easily!!

I rang the place straight away and they said they will put it right, but I want to see if it will still be OK after they have another go - any experience of this?

Also when I folded in the wing mirrors it appears that they didn't paint the inner area - which looks naff. I am going to get them to sort that as well, but again what are people's experiences of the inner paint work wearing away with repeated folding in of wing mirrors (I live on a narrow road!!!!).

Cheers
Peter

Pete,

I didn't have this problem, as I didn't have the rubbers painted.

I would have thought though that any decent paint shop would have removed the skirts before painting http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif.

Simon

I understand that they did strip off the bits - the rest of the quality indicates they did, but hey have obviously decided to paint the seals as well!!!

Will need to speak to them about this one. Does yours look OK with the seals left black?

Cheers

They shouldnt paint the rubber seal!...are u sure they havent just sprayed it all on the car??????????

Mine looks fine with black rubber (oo err) and it helps break up the blue a bit!

Got my MY99 fully body colour coded, including those naff plastic orange bits by the indicators. No problems.
It was done by my local Mercedes body shop as my dealer has an agreement with them.
Best body shop around, so they tell me!

Peter,

As Sunilp says the black bits actually help break up the car, which in IMHO looks better.

I also left the small black bits round the door handles black!

Schuey,
Did the (orange) bits by the indicators stay the colour you painted them or has it broken up slightly? I spray painted mine black because i thought it wasn't worth the additional cost incase of stone chips wearing the paint away - Beginning to think i was wrong though. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Still the same colour, apart from the odd bug/fly.
The only stone chips I've got so far are one on the drivers mirror suround and one on the rear passenger door handle, but there're only tiny. May be some more but I havent cleaned my car for 4 weeks. Just got a starter kit from the wax wizard so will try and clean it this weekend.
Mind you there are about 3 on the windscreen, but outside the wiper area.
