poor starting
 

hi guys,my mate has a 93wrx with the later spec engine in (97) he's having trouble with starting when warm,we are both tech's so tried the usual,crank sensor,still no good,tried coil,no good,took it to sparky and he said it was the ignition module?? whick we worked out was the map sensor according to where the sparky was pointing (next to boost solenoid) anyway we fitted a cam sensor and it seems to start after a good few turns of the engine with no throttle,but a puff of blue smoke out the exhaust? but if you put throttle on it floods and will not start/ any ideas as we are proper stuck now?????/:mad:

just to add,we tried a new ignition module to no avail too.

Is the CTS giving a sensible voltage reading?

Could be leaking fuel injectors, makes them a real bugger to start when warm because of the residual fuel pressure in the lines. I know this because i have just fixed the same thing on mine, blue smoke was due to the fuel soaking off some oil in the manifold and bores.

I put a liquid pressure gauge in line with the fuel pipe, after half an hour all the residule pressure had gone, it should hold pressure for much much longer, i then went the long route and took off both fuel rails, pressure checked them and 2 injectors were leaking, changed them and problem gone.

If it is this then i would recomend changing the oil as it could have been weakened by the bores being fuel soaked, that's what i've been told!!

would firstly reset the ecu and check for codes. It may throw up a temp sensor
