£40k - what would you buy??
I may be in a position in the next year or two to have around £40k to spend on a weekend toy...
For that type of money I could get a s/h 911 or 355...but could get a brand new Cayman S... At the moment I am leaning towards a brand new Porsche as its a once in a lifetime thing, and must make you feel pretty good - which is what I am after (don't really care if its slower than xyz as long as I can get a kick from owning it). Anything else worth considering? Would a 355 cripple me come service time? |
355 will cripple you. Get a 911
|
r34?
|
TVR Sagaris
|
Get a Cayman S mate, awesome cars. Saw a black one at my local Porsche dealership the other day with somekind of Retro looking wheels on it (available from dealers) and it looked stunning:):)
|
M3 CSL
|
Don't think you will get much change out of £50k for a Cayman S with a good spec (for resale, if nothing else).
Thats 996tt money!!!!! |
Caterham 7 R500 Evolution.
|
911
|
|
a weekend in Amsterdam - sorted :thumb:
|
A nice boat.
|
993 Turbo 4 :thumb:
Or my personal preference - hold out n save a few more £££s and have a 993 Turbo 4 S with the factory 450bhp conversion :luvlove: Good luck with whatever you choose :luxhello: |
Two £1000 a night hookers for 20 days.
Failing that a M3 CSL and spend the change on some £40 an hour hookers :) Did I mention to get some hookers? |
Actually, if it had to be a car i'd get a new Z4M Coupe.
|
993 turbo....rock solid residuals and £40k will get one....(just!)
Or 996 turbo......they can be had for £40k if you keep your eyes peeled and can move quickly.... Or how about a 911(997), these will easily be within the £40k bracket within a year or two...stunning cars... |
A nice R34...blow everything else away and awesome looking.
Stick to Jap mate. Dave |
How about a nice CL55 AMG (5.4L!!!)
Personally, I'd actually go for the 355. Only becaause I've always wanted one :( Dan |

If we're talking JAP then i'd take a year or two old NSX over an R34 anyday!
|
....but nothing on track, as it's a heavy POS.
Also If you're not in to track days, then I'd much rather be in a Porsche than some chavvy jap crap. The guy wants a special feeling when he gets in his weekend car, he doesn't want to get in a souped up Datsun FFS! |
The NSX is possibly the only non chav jap performance car.

as for track standard r34 is good enough to beat ferrari 360, corvett, bmw, evo, and nsx, only thing that beat it was a 911 turbo;) new one i might add |
I guess that for the most part, not many social housing types fancy spending 20k on a 10 year old car, when they could get a Subaru for 3k.
|
With £40k CASH i wouldn't buy a car TBH. Invest all the way. However, if you are getting it on the drip, but you are in a position to cover payments on a £40k loan i would get a Porsche 996 GT3.

I guess you've been watching those stupid japanese "races" again. Of course we all know a 300bhp 1600kg cars is faster than cars with less weight and more power. |
id buy 10 thai birds and get them shipped over
